I want to take a closer look at the updated Sumatra map for the SEA update. (I live in Sumatra and have a vested interest :p)

So there are a few things that I don't believe are historically accurate but will give the benefit of the doubt to in the region, especially in Malaya. Sumatra is much improved, but there are a couple of things I would like to suggest.

1: The map is closer in resemblance to 10-20 years later than 1444, even closer to 50-60 years later in fact, but there was no Siak sultanate until well into the 18th century. I believe Siak should either be under Malaccan control or a Malaccan vassal.

2. I am guessing "Barus" represents the Batak Kingdom. However, it would be incredibly remiss to leave out Toba, the heartland of the Batak. Funnily enough, a relatively powerful Pagaruyung should probably own the province named "Batak", while "Barus" should be owned not by "Barus" but by Hatorusan, the Batak Kingdom. Barus was an on and off autonomous port that was more often than not controlled by Hatorusan. However this skews the province borders all wrong, as they need to own one inland province connecting Barus and the province (name hidden on the screenshot) between Rokan and Deli.

My suggestion is to:
* move the north border of province Batak south and give it to Pagaruyung
* move border of barus south, making it smaller
* create one central mountainous province, Toba, which would be the second province of Barus (or better, Hatorusan or Bakkara) which would connect the province Barus and the province between Deli and Rokan.
* the "Toba" province should be mountainous to represent the difficulty in crossing and attrition enemies would face, as well as adding the giant Lake Toba to the map (it is over twice the size of Singapore, so why it's not on the map baffles me).

I also hope that, as in the previous update, we are given more unique ideas (Pagaruyung's in particular were impressive). Hatorusan for example was the last to convert to Islam or Christianity (not until the 19th century) and were known cannibals of priests, they had what would be closest to a tribal confederation in EU4, they had a powerful legal system and interesting religion.

National ideas shouldn't be hard to difficult to imagine with just a little research. As for religion- it's hard to come to a compromise, as they can't be Islam and are quite far from Animalist. I would however suggest Animalist, though Buddhist could be another option as they adopted some Buddhist observances (from the Chola, I believe).

Example Ideas:

Traditions: Tolerance of True Faith +2
Attrition for Enemies +1

Feed the Tendi : Consuming human flesh is the best way to invigorate our tendi, our souls. A strong soul gives us strength and fills our enemies with fear. (+10% shock damage)

You Shall Not Pasaribu! : No one dares venture to our hinterland, and those that do seldom make it back. By fortifying our holdings, we will make sure no one does. (Fort Defense +10%)

Isolated Idols : News from Barus reaches us of new faiths. The news may reach us, but the faiths shall not. (Local Missionary Strength -3)

The Marga : Not knowing our heritage is spitting on the graves of our ancestors. We are all brothers and sisters, and our marga keep us united. (-10% stability modifier)

Developing Barus : Barus has always been an important trading port but in recent times many competitors have sprouted up around the island. We must remind the traders that Barus is the place to do business. (+10% trade efficiency, - 10% dev cost)

One Kingdom, Many Languages: Across our land, tongues twist this way and that, yet with a culture as diverse and learned as ours, this is not a problem but a strength. (+1 max promoted culture)

The Green, Green Hills of Karo: Our volcanic soil ensures strong harvests every year, and nowhere is that more true than in Berestagi, where anything that is planted will grow. (+10% goods produced)

Ambition: +10% infantry combat ability

I would also like to praise the work done by @Shahanshah759 , @AirikrStrife and @nexmaxx : incredible detail and effort that I could never do. Dedication boys, dedication.

You bring up some interesting points, and new ideas are always a must. Good job, amazing suggestions!

I could have added more, it really is strange how different the map is to the real 1444 situation, but I guess it works better for balance and makes it more interesting. But I think these two aspects are important not to leave out.
