Sulfur? More like saltpeter!

Long story short, why does Vicky call "sulfur" sulfur, when in every case you need the resource, it is actually saltpeter (KNO3 or NaNO3) that is used and mined?

Oversight on the game designers part, or the usual confusion between the two, that seems to happen a lot these days.

actually it's used to represent all sulfurous-based raw materials, from pure sulfur to saltpeter to guano.

Not in the case of fertilizer. But, yes, it should be saltpeter when it comes to the armaments industry. I suppose that it was abstracted for simplicity's sake.

unless I'm mistaken, that was what most of the mining in Sicily was for, actual sulfur, though I'm not confirmed on that.

And later in the 19th C definitely there was heavy sulfur mining as the needs of the chemicals industry rose rapidly.

Actually saltpeter nor guano are sulfurous. However, they can be used for the production of gunpowder, together with sulfur.

Yes. More than heavy. Demand for sulphur and sulphur-based stuff was very high.

Sulphur, iron and coal propelled industrial revolution forward.

And thank God for that. Imagine if Vicky had 4 times as many different resources as it has now. Different types of wood etc. I certainly would lost my nerves cursing the fact that I don't have right type of metal or wood and it's not available on world market.

There is no sulfur in the original component. Guano was an essential source of nitrates for fertilizer and munitions until chemistry evolved to be able to produce nitrates usually from coal or oil. If you've ever come across an old doggy doo you may have notice that it has turned white, that because the process of breaking it down pulls nitrogen out of the air and fixes it in the doo.

Some islands were literally mountains of bird doo doo as a result of birds feeding on abundant local marine life undisturbed for eons. In fact one such Island lost its guano production when fisherman decimated the local marine life and the birds went away. No more Guano.

There should be far fewer sources in the game and an innovation to manufacture it at some point. There was quite a competition for Guano sources in the 19th century and an island in the Caribbean is still a subject of dispute arising from that competition.

It should also be correctly labeled as Guano. I think the authors are simply being overly politically correct because someone somewhere may be offended by the facts of life and chemisty.

This would put the current sulfur mines on Sicily into an interesting light

Hence, lets rename it saltpeter, as that is the actual chemical substance extracted from guano (and other biological waste as well)
