Why is suicide such an inevitable cause of death? is it natural as in do people leave the queue if someone dies like this? I think theres some things you can do to make it happen lesss frequently, but c'mon, its a survivalism, and my sims dont seem to be trying too hard. Is there a way to turn suicide off?

Colonists have a high chance to commit suicide when their sanity is low, see the wiki
Gameplay-wise, it is a way to force you to manage both health and sanity of colonists (mostly via clinics and relevant techs). From a realism point of view, I would say it is no too far-fetched, considering that suicide is a pretty popular cause of death even in relatively comfortable societies, and the stress of a constant fear for your own survival in a very hostile environment would probably not help that.

also unless you just started of a colony and play with the rule where you cant ask for more colonist you just not going to care in reality. it does add realism to the game and really wont affect you in any meaningful manner because the next batch of colonists are a click and like a sol-2 sol away or something.

Hello!

I am afraid the wiki is incorrect. You can find in the game files that colonists have a 1% chance of commiting suicide when their sanity reaches 0.

What may be causing several of your colonists to commit suicide is the fact that, when a colonist commits suicide, all colonists that live in the same residdence building will take -20 sanity penalty (seeing dead body), and that may lead them to commit suicide as well.

There is a very informative guide on steam that explains very thorougly how colonists function. I think it is called "Complete guide to comfort".

Hope that was helpful. Cheers!
