Hello! I'm not much of a poster and more of a lurker, but sometimes I like to share some thoughts here, so here's a few more thoughts brought by me experience with recent patches and DLCs.

1) Since there is now automatic transportation system in place and modifiers for jungle colonization are down, it seems like the AI doesn't need bonuses for colonizing. As in it now can pretty effectively defend its colonies from native attacks. There could be used some simple equation to set the amount of troops a colony needs, like the base amount is equal to native population (with a minimum of 1 regiment of infantry) and every point in agressiveness and ferocity add 10% to this value. If some kind of threshold is crossed (for example, the sum of agressiveness and ferocity is more than 15) than AI will also include some cavalry or artillery to the mix. This way both AI and player are brought closer to equal grounds.

2) With the addition of many more provinces colonial nations could have their ability to colonize brought up to par with their overlord nations. Currently it takes a bit too much to properly colonize New World (at least in my experience, historical amounts of colonizing almost never happen). While the rate of CNs colonizing should not necessarily be made the same as their overlords, it could get better, so it wouldn't be 1/4, but maybe 1/2 or a bit higher. If not then there could be added a diplomatic option "Subsidize colonizing" when dealing with your CN, which could give them a part of your income or lower the tariffs for some time, but will increase the colonization rate of CN or give them additional colonist.

3) Sometimes it gets annoying that after beating your colonial rival and getting his colonies you just have to start everything again, since that rival would just continue to colonize. There could be a peace option that would make that rival abandon all colonization in a certain region (with a choice in a peace deal screen) for the time of the truce or some hard coded time (5 to 10 years most likely). This of course should be quite costly, probably somewhere around 60% warscore, like the trade power transaction. If this peace is accepted then any unfinished colonies are abandoned in the chosen region and that region cannot be colonized for the time being. Already finished colonies could be annexed, but only if you have war score to demand them. This would make colonizing a bit more interesting in my opinion.

This is it. I hope this would be at least read by the developers, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Please share your thoughts on this.

I really like the 3rd one. Didn't it happen like that in real life that a nation would claim a certain area in the NW and any other nation colonizing there would immediately cause a conflict?
It's very illogical that a nation simply continues their colonization in the same area after a war about who gets the colonies.

As for the 2nd one I doubt that we will ever see an improvement in the current barbie doll AI of the CNs. If this does get implemented we should also get a say in what ideas a CN takes.

I will argue that unless you play as a European country with access to Atlantic Ocean and your CNs are Caribbean, Mexico and Brazil, colonization is a waste of money and diplo points.
Not sure if my logic is correct here but you spend 7*400=2800 diplo points which you could use to convert 2800/25 = 112 BT to your culture, making it 112*1.33 = 149 BT so you gain 37 extra BT which will roughly (w/o any ideas or events) will give you 37 ducats per year.

Will you CNs give you nearly as much? Perhaps but by the end of the game.

I believe they need much higher boost to be viable alternative to expansion within Europe. IMHO.

edit: ofc there are better ways to invest diplo points but still colonization is the worst

I'm not sure about that. If you can steer trade to somewhere you have complete gegemony (like English Channel for England/Great Britain if you manage to get Antwerpen and Holland), then you would get maybe not more money than if you had conquered more, but you could get nice bonuses from holding more than 20% of various trade goods. Also, include the costs of conquering, coring and converting provinces, and it becomes quite questionable what is more profitable.

As for the 2nd one I doubt that we will ever see an improvement in the current barbie doll AI of the CNs. If this does get implemented we should also get a say in what ideas a CN takes.

I doubt that this would be balanced though. AI would be at even bigger disadvantage than it is now when it comes to colonization. Although there was already removed AI "cheat" of bonus colonial range in one of the recent patches. Maybe they will remove or add something else.
