Challengers aren't supposed to be a punishment for player behaviour, random and arbitrary is good. The world is not about the player, especially in CK2.
And overcoming unmanageable challengers are what makes games fun. It's meant to add exactly what it does.

That was my point, it didn't add anything. Plus, adding game mechanics that aren't built around the player is bad game design. The flu isn't a challenge to be overcome, it's an annoyance that has to be tolerated until the game arbitrarily decides it is over.

I know people have complained about the knahaten flu before, but I just experienced it and I don't understand what you're trying to add with it. The flu isn't a punishment for some kind of player behavior, it just happens randomly. It can also be extremely detrimental to the player, for no reason. I know it's lore, but it doesn't add anything. It only takes away from the experience. The flu stops all meaningful warfare, and family members die so quickly that marriages can't last, so the flu stops all expansion for a few years. The flu also guts your income, so you can't spend the forced peace to improve your holdings or anything. The only thing I could do during the flu was frantically try to find more courtiers to grant titles as I kept inheriting my vassals' titles. Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't get what the flu is trying to add.

It is not supposed to add anything. It was a horrible and incredibly destructive event that happened in Tamriel history. It is supposed to make you curl up in a ball and cry until it goes away.

It's not really a big deal, and I'm not sure if someone's mentioned it, but I noticed a few counties that have anachronistic names. Pelegiad in Vvardenfell for instance. From what I understand, the county was named after an emperor that didn't exist yet. Also, Frostmoth wasn't built until the third era. I suppose, though, that if you conquer it as the empire, you're essentially accelerating the time frame, facilitating it's earlier establishment. My knowledge of the provinces that weren't in ES 3-5 is limited; So I haven't noticed any others. Maybe the names could be blamed on a dragon break. =P

Also, I've never been the dragonborn other than cheating to see the mechanics, but is it possible to add an event where the Greybeards summon you to High Hrothgar when you become the dragonborn. Or add a similar decision when you reach a certain age and are dragonborn. Maybe even add a very rare event after the establishment of the Empire and vassalization of Morrowind and Vvardenfell that create a once a game Nerevarine. It would also be nice to have a decision to separate the kingdom of Orsinium from High Rock if a player feels so inclined. Lastly, is it possible to reset the year to the 3E:0 upon creation of the empire and assimilation of all Tamrielic provinces. If these are already in the mod, or they sound too ridiculous or difficult, just ignore them.

If you want a game where nothing is but a mere equal reaction to the players action then throw a ball against a wall. That's not what CK2 is, much less what any mod would want to be.

If you are dead against it you can disable the event yourself

Hardly, because that is exactly how I designed the mechanic. I am the Knahaten Flu's architect.

I'm for the Knahaten Flu for two reasons. One, it's lore plain and simple. Two, it's very realistic. It's bring the bubonic plague to mind. I didn't start playing CK2 until very recently, so I haven't even seen this mechanic. I can't comment on the difficulty to survive it, but it did kill an entire race. So IMHO it should be really difficult.

Seems like its the age old discussion of "fun" versus "historical" all over again - In vanilla CK2, historially you would have a humongous family tree filled with stillborn or young dead children. Childbirth was not a fun experience historially.

(Which is also why pregnancies are less likely to happen than historically - same end result, less emotional rollercoasting and less pressure on the game)

I like having those big, deadly events - They should be something to be feared and planned for. Whether it be mongol hordes, the plague or Knahaten Flu.

Like I said, I'm pretty new to the game and this mod especially, but I have seen posts pertaining to that in the forums. I don't want you to think that I'm saying that the game should be guided along purely historical lines, and you should be forced to play a historical simulator. The game provides the means to create an alternate history, and I love that part of it. What I'm trying to say is environmental things like the Knahaten Flu that have had a very important place in the fake history of Tamriel seem to add to the whole. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

I just read you're edited post and it seems you do understand what I was trying to say.

Also the Games are both an abstraction which includes diversity above accurate representation to keep things interesting, and more importantly, is set after centuries of unity under an empire with a multi-racial policy while the mod takes place after the fall of an Empire of Men and in the chaos of the interregnum where strangers from another land would less like be welcomed as fellow citizens of the empire.
So even ignoring the vital mechanics problem with the marriages, the lore would suggest against it.

Good point, I was only thinking of modern lore but yeah that'll keep me from being bothered with the lack of diversity.

Another very minor thing I was thinking was that the Redguards look a bit off with tribal clothing, maybe just a little too primitive for what we know of the Redguards. I was messing around with Character Creator and I think that they look good with Mongol clothing. Just a thought.

P.S. I'm absolutely in love with the Knahaten Flu, from the one time I got in in game. Love the random globally affecting game-changers.

The difference between something like the Mongols and the flu are that you can fight the Mongols. You can struggle and challenge it. It can be fun to fight off a Mongol invasion. Hell, it can be fun even if you lose because you know it's a huge challenge that you were up against. You can't fight the flu. The flu and the Mongols both come from the same place (that is, nothingness) but the Mongols can be beat. The flu just has to be survived. It isn't fun and so it should be removed, pure and simple. It doesn't matter if it's lore, it's just a horrible game mechanic.

On the flu thread somewhat, and very much in line with my suggestion is if there could be a cure disease spell decision for courtiers. I mean, I was playing a game as a Master Battlemage with 16 learning and yet I couldn't even cure myself of the "ill" trait. When a plague stopped by (and please don't mistake what I'm saying: They are great events that add lots of flavour) half my court died. I felt helpless even though I had some wicked mage skills. So I think it would be great if we had that option, since it's lore appropriate as well and even if it's expensive it gives players the option to save at least a few of their favourite characters.

You can beat the flu too, just not by raising levies. Just because YOU don't find it fun doesn't make it a bad game mechanic.

That isn't beating the flu, because I'll still inherit all of my vassals counties. It still neuters all forms of expansion. It still destroys my family without any kind of way to combat it without gamey tactics. Do you find it fun to sit and do nothing for several in game years? The flu means you can't do anything. You can't expand through marriage, since at least one partner has a good chance to die. You can't expand through war since armies waste away. You can't improve your holdings because tax income is reduced by, what, 90%? What can you do in face of the plague? Not even as a way to "stop" as you suggested (which, again, isn't a way to beat the flu), just what can you do at all?

If you have a problem with it, you can de-activate it in your game yourself, thats no reason to throw a tantrum demanding the mod-devs bend their creation to your will and yours alone.

I'm not demanding anything, it's the dev's game and they can do what they want. I'm just telling them that it's a bad mechanic. The fact that you can't/won't respond to my criticisms is just proof of how badly it works in the game.

It's not a bad mechanic, presents different decisions and tactics to get through than through the rest of the game which is good. Better than any invasion which is just the tedious old war mechanics but solely defensive so not much of a change.
You dont like it because of your personal preferences, that doesn't make it objectively bad.
