I don't know where to put this but CR please leave it in here.

Ok, I noticed how heaps of posts in the GC PBM AAR were suggestions to make the game better and thought maybe we can put them in here instead and leave that thread for the main bit of the game. Shall we give it a try?;)

I uploaded the dice rolling program for you at
http://www.xs4all.nl/~spaanszt/Download/EUYochurtRollDice.exe

If you have any wishes, please mention them.

You can simulate several battles, just change the info & click the "roll" button. After all dice rolling, press "Make text file" to show the results.
You should be able to copy and paste them into IE.

It looks good, I want be able to test it this turn, but the next turn I guess I will have it up and running;)
Thanks:D:D:D

Hey CP, good job on the program. I was also wondering if anyone has a program or something so I can make 1 for me. (Rolling dice on the computer is much easier than having stuff bulk up my tiny room)

Bocaj,

Borland offers free versions of Delphi (and probably some other programming environments) for download, on the condition that you do not publish the software you make - the latest license I saw said the programs you make are for your own education / use only. You may not even distribute them for free.

(btw the dice rolling program was written in delphi too, using a purchased version)

When you start programming, try buying a good book on the topic which also covers the language you are trying to learn.

Do you guys think there's a way that we can work vassalizations out anyone? I would prefer for game purposes to have trusty little Pskov as my vassal as a peace treaty. If not, well, there's always annexation:D .

Also if we vassalize instead of annex, there should be certain bonuses for doing that as opposed to annexing.:)

BTW, CP I can't get into that link, it just takes me to the homepage.

My suggestion for vassalization would be:
a) Royal Marriage rules as in operation, RM is required for Voluntary Vassalizzation
b) Voluntary-vassal-to-be should have alliance with player
c) Voluntary Vassalization attempts costs 3 eco, 50% chance.
d) Forced Vassalization may be demanded in a peace treaty.
e) When vassals are attacked, the major country is automatically dragged into the war. The major always becomes the controlling player.
f) Effects: Vassals give 50% of yearly tax to major, rounded down. Major Player controls Vassal - army-fleet building, tech raises, etc. Cash of Vassal and Major are kept separate.

Conquered countries may no longer be annexed. Instead, forced vassalization is the only option.

Annexation is possible if and only if
a) country is a vassal (voluntary or forced)
b) country is adjacent
c) Major pays 3 eco

Yeah, the rules as above prevent the current spanish strat of rolling up minors.

That's a pretty good idea. It does seem strange though to pay to annex. Another way: Have to be one province to be annexed. If taken all provinces, you can demand all bar the capital. Then there will be a certain amount of time be4 you can DoW them again (say 10 years or so).:D

Annexation of a country also means integration.

Compare it with the merger of two companies nowadays: it's a huge management effort, and often requires a substantial amount of time.

Examples of things that have to happen for countires, even in those times:
  • new officials may have to be appointed (judges, governors, new custom officers
  • new buildings for the new custom officers - borders are different now
  • tax systems will usually need a complete overhaul
  • the (new) laws have to be taught to judges
  • connections as roads and bridges over the old border will usually have to be improved.
For a contemporary example, look at the unification of Germany. Imho they are still paying for it.

So I think that asking money from a player for annexation or even vassalization is justified on historical grounds.

Question RE RoP rule

[this q. is for Yoggie, but any answers accepted. Yoggie, your PM mailbox is still full]

Assume land-locked country A has a RoP though country B, which allows it's armies access to country C. Country A and country C have no common border, no allies. If country A DoWs country C, does this mean

* country A can move troops through B to attack country C at will, and
* country C's troops have no way of reaching country A?

Yes, at lest that's how it's supposed to work.

Imho yes, but only if A is landlocked.

(And why shouldnt C ask B for right of passage too, if B is neutral?)
