hello!
I see there is a event which gives character a pet. Well, it does give benefit when you earn a pet but when the pet dies, there is no penalty. I think there should be a penalty when you lose your pet. Nobody will choose not to have a pet unless there is risk of penalty. Maybe, chance of gaining 'depressed' could be interesting. You know, losing beloved pet is a heart-breaking experience.

I've never known anyone to get depressed after their dog dies. You just grieve for a day or so and then get a new one later. Depressed != Sad.
if a dog's been in a family for, say, 20 years it's understandable that depression might happen. 'depression' is just something that happens to some people sometimes. it doesn't mean there's anything wrong or bad...um...i'll just see myself out...

I lost this depressed trait from antagonizing someone the other day. First time I'd seen that.

... I think 'depression', well, it should happen a fair amount. The problem is, it doesn't clear up often enough. People get depressed all the time. Some clinical depression (like major depression) is really quite rare. Bipolar would happen with more frequency, but isn't represented in game at all.

Pet event: Easiest I've seen to trigger is the shieldmaiden cat. My shieldmaidens are usually missing all limbs and mangled and such, but each supplies half dozen kittens or so. Educate them as soldier, give the chinese +0.50 health book, etc.

No, characters don't get depressed when their pet dies, but the opening poster is suggesting that they should. Or are you talking about RL?

Contrary to the OP, there is a small penalty to getting a pet if you already have one--there is a chance that one will run the other off or kill it. Granted, that leaves you no worse off than before.

At any rate, as far as the game goes, I agree with the poster who said that the game doesn't need any new ways to get depressed.

hello!
Nobody will choose not to have a pet unless there is risk of penalty.

I think this is intentional. They are supposed to be beneficial. There's even a bloodline with the special benefit of being able to automatically get a new dog after the old one dies. :)
