There are some oddities with the present patriarch assignment, particularly with regards to the Patriarch of Rome. Additionally, most titular kingdoms under the areas covered by Pentarchs and additionally custom kingdoms created in areas under Pentarchs end up autocephalous. Suggestions are as follows:

  • k_leon pentarch date adjusted back to 100 to match other kingdoms, so it is under the Patriarch of Rome if formed under Orthodox before 20 December 910, or alternatively, the creation decision adding an entry (regardless of religion of person firing the decision)
  • The following de jure kingdoms put under the patriarch of Rome:
    k_wales
    k_brittany
    k_castille
    k_spanish_galicia
    k_andalusia
    k_venice
  • (possibly) k_mauretania put back under Patriarch of Africa, or maybe Patriarch of Rome
  • The following titular kingdoms have a pentarch date of 100 added so they are not autocephalous if they gain de jure territory, and then end up under Orthodox rule, with patriarchate in parentheses:
    k_aydin (Constantinople)
    k_candar (Constantinople)
    k_cyprus (Constantinople)
    k_eretnid (Constantinople)
    k_genoa (Rome)
    k_germiyan (Constantinople)
    k_karaman (Constantinople)
    k_mentese (Constantinople)
k_orthodox (Constantinople, to prevent possibility of there being an autocephalous Patriarch of The Ecumenical Patriarchy)
    k_ottoman (Constantinople)
    k_papal_state (Rome)
    k_pisa (Rome)
    k_rum (Constantinople)
    k_saruhan (Constantinople)
    k_tekke (Constantinople)
    k_trebizond (Constantinople)
    k_trinacria (Rome)
  • Check added for custom kingdom creation that adds a pentarchy entry the same as the kingdom the base duchy is under upon creation

Edit: I just noticed there's a suggestions subforum as of about two months ago. If a kind moderator could move this thread there, it would be appreciated.

If the Ecumenical Patriarch has Constantinople, it still displays Constantinople. He is patriarch of that area by virtue of being Patriarch of Constantinople, and that is displayed.

However, Orthodox areas not under another patriarch are under the Ecumenical Patriarchy directly. This changes if there is another patriarch to take the place. The Pentarchs' patriarchies are defined by a pentarch = <title> entry in the history file for a kingdom.

It's probably not an autocephalous patriarch of Constantinople you were witnessing, but simply seeing the Ecumenical Patriarch's coverage as Patriarch of Constantinople. If the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarch had been, for instance, Rome, or Antioch, or any of the other patriarchs, this area would be covered by the Patriarch of Constantinople. As for the other areas, if a King/Despot/Exarch of Wallachia or Serbia was formed, those areas would form an autocephalous church headed by that ruler's court chaplain.

Autocephalous patriarchs exist for kingdoms and empires that are either not a kingdom defined in the history files to be within a pentarch's area or in a pentarch's area where the pentarch is not in place. Example of the latter would be the King of Armenia when Antioch is under Muslim rule.
