So I've been playing Transport Fever 2 recently as well as Planet Zoo... so that's where these ideas kind of come from.

But the idea of more in depth trade route systems, being able to set up trade lines. Similar to bus lines but from each factory/farm to the next in the chain until it arrives at a distribution facility. Not sure how possible it is, let alone if people even would want this system or similar.

The main suggestion I have is one that we saw in SimCity 2013, probably the one actually good feature out of that game: module upgrading. This system was one of the best parts of that... poor poor game. Getting rid of the need to drop 2 elementary schools in a neighborhood because of class sizes and just making the one bigger. Getting rid of the need to either place a second firehouse OR a bigger fire station for when you're stuck in that in-between area of not needing a massive fire station but needing a bit more than just one fire house.

And lastly, some kind of online element. I'm thinking similar to Planet Zoo where you make zoo's and buy and sell your animals on a global market. Having that for resources or consumer goods. Maybe have a system where if you're city is hit by a random disaster and you need help you can pay money to get more emergency crews or just help with the disaster. Probably something to be added in the next game? A kind of global City you can opt into, again similar to franchise mode in Planet Zoo.

I don't know, just spit balling here.

I definitely agree with manually setting up trade routes as that we ease so many issues with supply and demand if it’s just a fixed “this extractor and warehouse supply this specific factory” instead of all the trucks locally being ignored and the warehouse on the complete opposite side of the map being issues the buy order for materials and then taking forever to get there.

Yeah! Adding in a distribution building that has a big AOE for stores that you send the trucks to would help as well, knowing all the goods are in the building and that all the commerce in that area are getting their goods from that building would help as well rather then, again, them getting supplied from some factory on the other side of the highway.

I wonder if that addition alone would help with major traffic issues.

I did wonder if they ever introduced pedestrian only roads so we can make shopping malls how you would supply the goods and you my friend have just cracked it! Have a central (ish) distribution hub that collects the goods, much like the park gates act as the service pick ups for the entire park

I'd like modular (service-) buildings, but don't want to manage supply chains as a mayor. Factories running out of ressources could be avoided by being able to add storage to them directly (by modules?).
