CKII forums have recently been dominated by talk of culture - especially minority culture and culture conversion. I had another brilliant idea for a dynamic decision which I thought I’d share. :D

A new decision in the Intrigue tab: “Take Local Wife.” This decision would be available to unmarried rulers, or polygamists who do not have max wives. It could also be available for a ruler’s heir. In order for the decision to appear, the culture of the ruler’s capital must differ from his own. The text might read something like this.

“The <culture> people of my realm resent being ruled by a foreigner. If I were to take a <culture> wife, however, I might appease them and secure their loyalty.

> Find me a suitable woman of <culture> blood!
> I care not for the opinions of the peasant masses.”

If the first option is taken, a special courtier is spawned as the ruler’s new wife. Although her stats are randomized, she negates the “wrong culture” revolt risk for either 30 years or until she dies.

She is also accompanied by a new Intrigue tab decision, once married: Raise <Culture> Levy.

“My <culture> wife is beloved by her people. I may raise a legion of <culture>s to fight in her name.”

Like the “Raise Honor Guard” decision from Chinese princesses, this decision would grant a small number of non-respawning event troops, and would only be available at war. The number of troops would scale with the ruler’s title.

An interesting side-effect of this decision is that AI rulers who take it would be more likely to flip to their local culture (something that doesn’t happen often enough), since the likelihood of a ruler’s wife educating her children is fairly high. A special event could even be added, in which the wife asks her spouse for permission to educate their heir with local culture.

Nothing huge, but I love flavor like this - and the game could always use more unique, interactive events.

It would definitely be a good way of making assimilation at least a slight bit more common; right now it's pathetically rare.

Probably because a vassal lord is not permattid the "Change culture" deciscion if he shares his lieges culture(same as with religion). Think it´s more common they change drastically like being educated to another religion as well rather than that a greek ruler in Armenia turns Armenian.

Spawnnig a new count vassal, there should be a autobutton like in baronies for counts except they should be local culture.

There’s a happy medium somewhere in-between. There *should* be ways to overwrite native culture, if a ruler so desires, but there should also be tangible benefits to keeping provinces and vassals of cultures other than your own. This decision would be a small step in the right decision, IMO.
