I suggest that we should be able to select ruler traits on the ruler creation screen.

When I want to play as a military dictator, I shouldn't have to keep making new games (in my most recent case 17 times) until I randomly get a military-oriented ruler trait.

Alternatively, please increase the odds that military rulers get military-oriented ruler traits, that scientific rulers get science-oriented ruler traits, and so forth. That way, players like me won't have to restart the game so many times in order to get suitable ruler traits.

I kind of like that you can't chose specific traits for your rulers, I takes away a large min-maxing compenent of the game and makes it more dynamic. But I agree on that rulers should get traits that are atleast somewhat related to the type of empire you are running, if I am running a science directorate I couldn't care less of getting a discount to building spaceports when I spawn.

The problem can be so crippling for Oligarchies and Autocracies that in only rare cases I consider it worth picking them multiplayer.

The whole chance ill get something like a fertility preacher explorer in a competitive match, that you will then be stuck with for most of or all of the early game, really kills it for me.

We really need all leaders to be customizable at the beginning of the match. Give us points to spend on traits and the youthfulness of our leaders. Some want Champion of the People, others want cheap corvettes. And yet others might prefer a good early admiral over a lvl 5 science leader.

Min maxers will either tediously re-roll their games or just edit their saves in singleplayer, as OP is proof of.

In multiplayer, it's just totally unbalanced. The right ruler traits are a large advantage.

It also takes away a legitimate RP element from the game start situation, sadly.

(And, y'know, starting the game by getting 75 years of a Resilient Fertility Preacher is pretty much a colossal "screw you".)

Better than the Slaver Mandate you'd get in a Fanatical Materialist society. Actually maybe not, at least democracies can get rid of their terrible leaders with relatively little cost.

I would love for us to be able to choose the democratic leader's mandate AND have the mandate in effect when you start rather than having to wait 5 years to have one to work on.

I would go a step further and suggest weighting certain traits.

Warlike should have a lot less likelihood of appearing in a Pacifist empire (especially if you've got divergence under control), etc.

I agree 100%.

Both from a competitive point of view it can make a huge diff (a warlike space miner will be able to build everything they want coz stations cost 57 minerals,t hats almost half price) and from an RP point of view it makes no sense, I can genetically design my entire species, decide what they look like, what they believe in, where they live, I can even decide the gender, title, and name of my starting ruler but i cant chose if he is a farmer or not?

For leader based strategies this is essentially crippling, if I have decided to invest all my trait points into getting venerable leaders then any rubbish ruler I am stuck with for up to 200 years, on the other hand if I reroll my start until I get 3 genius scientists and a great ruler I'm set for most of the game. Venerable is already the most expensive trait on the list for a relatively minor bonus (5* for longer and keep good leaders for longer) compared to other builds like thrifty industrialists (15% to M and F), so why gimp it by making your leaders based on starting RNG.

Would certainly make Enduring/Venerable more valuable traits, so I like this idea.

+1 to this
Also as a sidenote what do the ruler exp stars (4) do exactely?

Nothing at the moment. Rulers effects on a country are entirely determined by their traits.

Well i guess it is something that they will look into at some point maybe add a set/randomize button to leader traits, as well as make them get exp and make those stars actually worth something ( for rulers i mean) . Also they should probably start at lvl 1 since most of them don`t have a clue about leeding a space empire in the beggining...i mean they just barely mastered space flight it`ll take some time for them to figure out the in`s and out`s of stellar politics i think

Taking Venerable as a monarchy is basically saying "You know what? I don't want to take full advantage of my government's bonuses."

Taking Venerable as a monarchy is basically saying "You know what? I don't want to take full advantage of my government's bonuses."

All governments without elections are screwed by venerable and in fact by enduring as well, since very soon you will start researching techs extending lifespan.

You can build buffed assault unit? - yay!, however only one unit once per century or two.
