This is something I've noticed a lot with EUR, and could possibly even be the cause of many late-game problems: savegames get absurdly large, since they store a ton of data pertaining to virtually everything that has happened in the game. Characters (and the titles and events that pertain to them), battles, armies and even where/when each individual unit are recorded. This causes savegames to take ages to generate, and even longer to load after about 100 years into the game (and not even that, sometimes).
In my prematurely-ended Rome campaign (using Epigoni which, admittedly, has a heck of a lot more countries and thus more characters than vanilla), there was about 80MB of character data. The whole savegame was about 87MB in size and still had just under a century and a half to go until the end of the game.
Which makes me wonder - is it possible from a development point of view to insert an option for the game to automatically delete history data from a specified amount of time before the current date?
I suggest that it becomes an option, simply so people who want to keep detailed historical records of their characters can do so, but if you don't want the excessive amount of data kept then you can choose to turn if off.
Any thoughts?
