First of all, when Alfonso take over the throne, he just take down very neighbor taifas, and they were obligated to pay him (he even autoproclamed him : Emperor of the Spains). Then the north african Al Muratibids came and take down the taifas, and then won against castillan.
With the actual betas and the 1066E it's more or less what happen, but in general the Al Muratibids finish to loose, and have to flee from Spain, the reconquista is done before 1150.

The problem come from the way of diplomacy between religious enemy on the game.
The mod adding the claim request to take the religious enemy territories make it more realistic, we just have to add claims to the different catholic king and dukes of Iberia, to make it realistic.

If you want to discuss problems with religious war systems in general, please start a new thread, since it's not at all Iberia-specific and like many people have pointed out here, nor is it the Iberian Problem of old either.

No I do not want to discuss that in general  - because IBeria, Middle east, etc. - it doesn't matter the problem is everywhere and we need to focus on real issues.

there has been a lot of great work on balancing and crusade engine - and that's ok, it balanced Iberia much beter - but the basic issue is not solved.

The basic problem is a combination of 2 facts. One = religious enemies don't need claims on eachother. Two = rebels from a different faith - chasing your authority from the county - do not found an independent county (or don't revert to their old overlord). This allows one to stretch wars into unrealistic exhaustive religious wars. And this equals walkovers...

That's the fundamental issue here. I've seen it many times with my own eyes - and last time the doctor said my eyes were still ok - so I'm still waiting for an answer.

I advise everybody to play a game on hard as duchy of Oultrejourdain - then trying to become KOJ (KOJ is walked over 99% of time) and experience the walkover problem time after time. And then after hundreds of years - you walk the Muslims over on the same basis.

Suggesting...

And again, instant conquest of muslims and pagans not really functioning. Something needs to be done about this.

Concrete suggestion
-you dont need claim to start a war.
-you get "province controlled by" as in normal warfare.
-you can either grab claims normal way but with no bb, and maybe cheaper in prestige.

-settle peace with the exchange of money and maybe land. But since pagan/muslim land is/should be a royal pain in the ass (in constant revolt) it might be more profitable to raid and pillage, take huge sum of money and then leave.

and pillaging should be worth it. I dont wage war to seize constantinople, but to pillage it, humiliate the sultan. and make peace...
