It seems this simulation is more about traffic than anything else. :)

In that case, might it be possible to have more varieties of roads? For example, something between the one-way two-lane road and the one-way six-lane road?

(I can't imagine that this has not been suggested before, but I've looked at the last 5 pages of posts. Sorry if duplicated.)

Seconded!

My suggestions:

3-lane 1way
4-lane 1way

2-lane highway and/or on/off ramp
4-lane highway

So we can build for example a 4-lane highway splitting into a 2-way + 2 off ramps.

Since vehicles in C:S don't overtake or change lanes to avoid obstacles, it would be good, to have better control over how lanes merge/split.
Hence 2-lane and 4-lane highways.

It seems like I'm really not the only one suggesting more road diversity. I've also posted about this but I think I'll do something more than that in the upcoming days. So yes: +1

In addition to those options, also a one lane one way road which is zoneable, so not the highway ramp.
Then all the same again but with a dedicated bus lane on each, including the one lane 1 way, aka a dedicated bus only road.

How about instead of all the duplicates with bus lanes, make just a 1 square wide single lane bus lane, that can be placed right next to streets with no gap in between?

Or, IMO even better...
A menu which shows the various road types, i.e highway, plain, grass lined, tree lined, but not like it is now.
Next to it a checkbox to include a bus lane
Then next to that a slider for how many lanes in total from 1 to 6.

i.e:

And a checkbox to disable/enable the sidewalks. Country roads and two lane highways don't have sidewalks.
And crosswalks. There are too many crosswalks.

While we're dreaming, may I also suggest divider? You want the road to be divided, and no left turns even when there's a street on the opposite side. Right now it's not possible to stop people from turning left when it slows traffic tremendously

I would probably die of happiness if that shown and mentioned above, plus option box for cycle lane, was implemented. Like OP said, many of us spend more time in game trying to deal with roads, than any other single aspect.

I'd like to see (in addition to the options in this)

a 4 lane (2 both ways) road that is only 2 tiles wide... so it takes off the parking bays on the side (parking restrictions?)

Also a 2 lane road that has high speed but is not zone-able... something like you get in countryside between villages. Then when you want to start building on it you have to reduce the speed limit.

I'd also like to see cul de sacs. Something that is more of a turning circle or area at the end of some streets or roads. It could boost land value maybe?

Just take the system of CiM2 (editor or ingame) here and improve it.

Would be even cooler to be able to add or remove a lane from an existing piece of road. So you get a 2 way street with 1 lane going one way, and 2 going the other (for instance). This way you can set up more lanes towards traffic lights. But i guess thats just me dreaming.

At some intersections I have indeed put larger roads if there's bad traffic. There isn't a good method of doing this as often you have to delete a large bit of land, add a small square or two of high capacity road and then expand your smaller roads into it. The results are also mixed as traffic will only use a couple of lanes and not all of them depending on which way they are turning.

Yes, and in CiM2, using roundabouts you could easily control flow as you could ban U-turns in roads by making the angle very sharp. This option is not available in CSL, having big consequences. Especially in cities with 120.000 people.

+1. CiM2's road system was all around much more flexible than this game, and building roads for private cars wasn't even the focus of that game. More lane options, using sharp angled intersections to avoid turns you don't want, bus lanes.... shame CSL took a step back.

I'm kind of obsessed with road's and quite gutted that we don't have CIM2's flexibility.
Okay so CSL's guides and stuff make it a bit easier to create nice curves and smooth roads (usually) which was a little more difficult in CIM2 but the sheer number of options you could combine to direct traffic was awesome.

Please CO: Add more options like CIM2. More lane control, tighter merge lane angles (which prevent some unwanted turns)

Just tried different things in controlling flow of traffic. My conclusion is: totally inefficient and totally uncontrollable.

Traffic changing lane just before a traffic light (causing massive jams) and using 1 lane (of the 3) to go multiple directions. They even use a lane in a WRONG way according to the arrow painted on the road itself!

I do not know what the logic behind this is, but i would love to know. Like this, big cities are impossible.

Smart interface !
CO does not want to turn this game into a transport simulation.
But something needs to be done about traffic for sure. I have fiddled around with traffic for hours and also noticed that lane merging and lane usage (preselecting too early) are terrible. Those 2 aspects need serious optimization.
So I vote for smarter A.I. over more road options. But more control is always nice.
