I have no idea if this has been suggested before, but I would really like to see an integrated map display.
Ideally, I would like to be able to turn on or off various "overlays" on the main terrain map to help get a feel for the situation in one glance. Being able to adjust the transparency of each overlay would also be very handy.
So, for example, I might play most of the game with a simultaneous display of the terrain, weather, and political map modes. By setting the political mode overlay to mostly transparent, I should still be able to see different terrain colors, just tinged with the appropriate country colors. And by setting the weather mode also mostly transparent, I could see where it was actively raining/snowing and the like for deciding whether or not to go ahead with attacks.
I think it would also be really handy to have an "infrastructure mode" display that shows what the relative infrastructure level of each province is.
