Hello,
So, the other day I had an idea for a new road building system in Cities: Skylines. Currenty in the game, we have a list of different roads to choose from, some with one lane, others with two or three. Now, none of these roads have turning lanes or anything. With NExt, you can get more roads, some with turning lanes. When you intersect two roads, it creates a standard intersection with no extra turning lanes, or anything. This is great for simple players of the game, those who are not very interested in micro-managing their road networks.
My Idea
The first part of my idea is this: Have an optional menu that you can use at intersections. You can select different types of turning lanes or slip-lanes (for right turns) to put at the intersection. This can become complicated when dealing with the default road types. How about this: We keep the original, default roads. They stay. However, the more advanced way to place roads would be in a menu where you can select:
  • The number of lanes on each side (1-6 or so)
  • The size and type of median (basic yellow lines, stripes, turning lane, concrete, barrier)
  • Sidewalks/no sidewalks
  • Speed limit
  • Possibly more. Come up with some ideas.
The second part of my idea is this: Instead of having roads snap to the center when changing between 2 sizes, ( http://imgur.com/N4m0V8D ) new road building will snap to individual lanes, to do things like ( http://imgur.com/TLsZ6H4,http://imgur.com/93mRBdw ).

That is my idea in a nutshell. Please leave your comments and suggestions. Also, anyone who'd be willing to make this into a mod--or even a DLC--I'd be glad to help.
Thanks,
Alex

well splitting an avenue like this is possible with Traffic ++ mod, you can designate lane directions and all, it's just a cosmetic thing that it creates intersection with crosswalks (not so cosmetic after all) while separating the road... I think road system enhancement is a long track run

I'd be happy with just highway building tool where you can build perfect symmetric highways directly and have ability to plant trees on sides automatically (toggle). That would be swell.
