Suggestion: Iceland as a Formable or Triggered Nation?

If the Arctic modifier would be removed, it would be more viable. I'm fine with Iceland only starting with 6 development

As we previously discussed, the Icelandic Commonwealth is enough of an element to show a unique Icelandic culture and the presence of the Althing - the people's assembly - throughout the Middle Ages reflects that the Icelandic population being recognizant of their own autonomy as the Kalmar Union never cared to dabble in the affairs of the island. While that comment on Icelandic nationalism can be made and argued, it can also be said that the presence of Galician or Leonese Cores & National Ideas is also in that same boat as those concepts were not cemented until after 1800 - despite being a conscious thought as those states were around centuries earlier.

I would support Iceland as a revolter/releasable nation that could reform Norway, but I'm not sure about Norway forming Iceland.

Like others itt I am obviously completely unbiased.
But that's a load of crap. The idea of an independent Iceland free of the Danish monarchy wasn't really a thing until the 19th century but for essentially the entire EU4 period Icelanders formed a very separate nation from Norwegians and were recognized as such. Already in the 14th century Middle Norwegian and Middle Icelandic started to diverge to the point of being mutually unintelligible. One concrete example of Iceland being considered a separate nation is Brevis Commentarius de Islandia (A Brief Commentary of Iceland) by Arngrímur Jónsson the learned dating from 1593 where he talks about misconceptions from foreigners (Danes and Germans in particular) about Iceland and Icelanders - making multiple references to the country of Iceland and the Icelandic nation. Same author also advocated linguistic purism as early as the beginning of the 17th century. The linguistic purism ideals started to gain steam in the middle of the 18th century which sought to remove foreign (mostly Danish) influence from the Icelandic language and was largely successful.
Iceland seems to be a fairly popular request and if there are enough people that want to play it I can't see it be a waste of space.

Honestly I would like to see Norway buffed or Sweden nerfed to great a bit more balance of power in the region, and then for a revoltable Icelandic tag to have cores on Iceland. On top of that a mission to "Conquer Icelandic Commonwealth" might be made available for countries whose capitals are in the Scandinavia region if Iceland is independent or in the hands of say a rump Norway.

Hey, the forum persuaded Wiz to add Florence, so why not Iceland? I'd say post a thread in the Suggestions subforum and make it persuasive without being jingoistic, so as to make a good case for its inclusion!

Whoa, I haven't spent time in the forums long enough recently to see that. I will most certainly prepare a cogent argument for this.
I would rather Iceland, the Faroes, etc. all be wasteland, really, or represented as some sort of trading post or influence mechanic.

I primarily play RotW, and I too would like to see Iceland as formable or triggered tag. I'm not Icelandic, Nordic, or Scandinavian in any way, shape, or form, so I'm completely unbiased!

I support the idea of having Iceland in the game, and have said so before. I'm not convinced it should be a formable nation, or be able to re-form Norway, or that it should be released by event when Norway gets into trouble. But the two provinces of Iceland should have Icelandic culture and Icelandic cores so that there can be Icelandic Separatists to make it independent. Iceland existed as a separate entity before the EU4 period, and an independence movement sprung up shortly after the period. There is no innate reason why it couldn't have become independent during the period, even if historically it didn't. It continues to baffle me that after all this time there still isn't even an option for Iceland--and this a game made by a Scandinavian company.

I can only agree that it should be releasable and culture, but there should be... Well, there should be better controls on the amount of colonisation done now that we have separated manpower values.
Icelands 1703 census lists about 50,000 people on the island. It would be utterly unrealistic for them to, say, colonise half of Canada over 100 years without seriously depopulating Iceland itself. But you could argue the same for Norway. They just don't have the 'disposable' population like Spain, France and England did.

Huzzah. Hope we get an Icelandic/Norse (so it can fit the other Norweigan island holdings) culture, but really that would merely be a cherry upon a delicious sundae that I shall surely gobble up once it arrives, so in the likely case we don't get the cherry? It doesn't make sense that King of Norway would change his primary title to newly created title, it would only make sense as formable nation if Norway if a republic.

Make it a releasable core please. I guess Norway > Release Iceland > Scandinavia would be fun.
The reason they made it arctic was because it was weird having Norway's best provinces be outside of Norway.
They can make it non-arctic in climate but belonging to a continent called "arctic", so it will be overseas and with the heavy LA floor. I guess adding a continent for such a small fix is probably overdoing it though.
