Suggestion: Iceland as a Formable or Triggered Nation?

After noticing this trend in my recent months and seeing others' global empire maps, Sweden usually conquers the region and creates Scandinavia - and this usually leaves a lackluster Norway stationed off in Iceland. At which point, it is never able to recover from losing the mainland and becomes a lame duck for either Scotland or England to conquer - as Sweden/Scandinavia never seems concerned with bringing it into the fold.

While it may not be the most historically sourced idea, a formable or event-triggered Iceland should happen when mainland Norway falls as it would provide a new life for the nation and create a new set of National Ideas in looking to North America - should it still be there for colonizing. This would make this region more dynamic, and let a fresh different potential power into the mix should they not be met on the battlefield.

What are your thoughts on such an idea?

I would also like to add that Iceland should not be arctic. The winters here are pretty warm compared with most northern places in the world. I would love to see this implemented!

I like the idea. I usually capture Iceland as England, mostly to leap frog to the New World but also to further control the North Sea and North Atlantic, but it might be cool to make them a vassal.

It would make sense for them to have releasable cores rather than a formable nation, since they were already distinct from Norway and co-existed for a while. Although a Icelandic/Norse culture would make these cores much more useable in the future.

I had my own personal mod which added Iceland (among others) and it always ended up managing to colonise (Panama usually), so it's not too poor

I can agree with you on this one. Seldom have I seen Norway win in region control in these last two patches. Something is up.

Yeah, I looked into that historically, and that does seem to work. It worries me that it might be a number of years beyond it would be conceivable; but, then again, we still have lingering dreams for Crusader Kingdoms in the Levant. So the timetables could work. The cores can definitely work.

This was one of my thoughts too, and my contribution would be that a restored Iceland by way of Norway being exiled to the island could entail a development boost to both provinces as a resettlement of crown investment. This could fix the poor nature of finances of the islands alone. It also explicitly explains why Norway flounders when it's been pushed there.

Would be fun to play, you would have to worry about England/Scotland eventually now rather than derp around for 300 years without fear.

If I remember correctly with the last patch (common sense) every country have base of economic playability now, even if province can't sunstain it.

Alright; here's a similar situation based on your logic; a Venice that loses Venice but holds onto other Italian-Venetian holdings should be able to reform into Aquileia.

True but that is only base 1 ducat and colonist cost 2. I have no doubt a human could go to to colonise but considering a CN or native American wont colonise until they have 8 ducats a month income I can't see Iceland getting there.

It's not a good situation either way.

This logic cannot be used everywhere and should be thought of sparingly; but, there are some spaces where unique and dynamic events should happen should a nation be forced from their capital or heritage area - and they are left in a new home where there is known nationalism or historical autonomy. The biggest event like this being the Transfer of the Portuguese Court to Brazil in 1807.

In that Venetian situation, I could see that be especially fitting with a Papal tie-in to support that establishment of the Patriarchate again.

Might just take up space. The idea of Iceland being a nation (let alone Norway) wasn't really a thing prior to the 19th century.
