A fellow poster in my thread on the general forum suggested that I post my idea to the suggestions subthread - of which, I am surprised this whole area has evaded my eyes for months.
Coming from an unbiased and non-nationalist perspective, I believe that much can be reasoned for an inclusion of Iceland as a nation in the current state of EU IV. If we have reached a patch that includes National Ideas for Leon or Galicia as a bellwether for inclusion based on old European dominions, I will review the reasons why there should be an Iceland in some unique or inventive manner in the following bullets:
I think much can be culled from these bullets to warrant some kind of interesting event chain with Iceland as it is a notable location being on the hinterlands of Europe and the connection to North America. As we have begun to see more flushed out revolt countries in recent patches and the addition of National Ideas to less-likely revolt/releasable countries, Iceland seems like an interesting and valuable choice going forward.

- As of the past two patches, much of my own gameplay and viewing other players' empire maps seems to indicate an interesting pattern: the exiling of Norway from mainland Scandinavian into Iceland due to an aggressive Denmark and/or Sweden. This results in a lame duck Norway that is never able to take on new tasks or goals, and only ends up wallowing on Iceland until England, Scotland, or another enterprising European country decides to conquer it. Based on my last ten games, I've witnessed this happen six times.
- While true patriotic Icelandic Nationalism does not reach a full conceptual existence until 1800s/1900s, the history of Iceland between 1200 and 1800 indicates an understanding of their Norse roots and autonomous being in the world as European 'overlords' of Iceland had rarely preoccupied themselves with their matters, especially under the Kalmar Union. The Althing is the oldest parliamentary assembly in the world, and this body provided reinforcement to the idea of an Icelandic people.
- These past two bullets support the idea that there should be inclusion at least for cores on Iceland so that a national Iceland could be a revolt country.
- Being a bit more advantageous and probably a little less historically grounded, there should be some dynamic nation creation when the problems of the first bullet occur - a Norway that gets exiled to Iceland and loses all of its' provinces on the mainland could transform into Iceland. This would allow for the nation to continue to be competitive and switch to a new perspective on the world - i.e. colonizing North America. The idea of a dynamic transformation is not unheard of historically speaking, the Transfer of the Portuguese Court to Brazil in 1807 is one example of a mainland European country that moved capitals and changed focuses. They never changed names; but, the time spent in Rio was more than a decade and not a vast amount of time that could indelibly impact the inner framework of their government in relation to nationalism.
- As a counter-balance to the previous bullet, Iceland would have the option to reform Norway if Norway does not exist as to allow for the country to return to the fold should.
- For balancing, any transformation to Iceland should entail a development boost to allow for the country to be able to start financing colonial endeavors - and this could be reasoned with crown investment in their new provincial home.
