We got to see a few rebel/independent worlds in the Blorg streams, and something that kind of bothered me is that rather than having a unique name to distinguish themselves from the rest of the species, they just have the species name plus another generic government name (Qel'Nudar United Tribes, for example).

So if I have a big empire called the Terran Galactic Union, and a few worlds go independent, I'd like for them to not have names like Human Republic or Free Human Traders, but rather something like Free Republic of Tethys or United Ariel Nations. Basically, for rebels and independent worlds, please use the planet name for their empire name rather than the species again. This will help them stand out more from the "legitimate" empire of the species, and also make more sense in-universe.

+1 for good idea.

...although I personally would use the same name for all of these breakaway states: "Rebel scum".

That is a great idea. We really really would need a "majority species" and a "relations" map mode. Now you can see, where the Qell-Nudars are, just by the name, that wouldn't be the case if the rebels name themselves at something else than the species.

That's a good idea. If Sibulans were sent to colonise another planet and then rose against the Blorg then it would be great if their new state would be called "The Sibulan Republic" or something, even if it didn't actually include their original homeworld.

This is especially the case if the people rising are a divergent species that's split off from the main one. The "Neo-Blorg Commonality" would be cool to behold.

Awesome idea! But I think that once a species doesn't have an empire anymore (because it's fully conquered) their first rebels should name themselves after the species instead of the planet, because they would want to resurrect their empire. Just like @TheBeautifulVoid said it.

This is a great idea. If the rebels are just called "Blorg Empire", it sounds as if they made a claim to be the only Blorg empire. And this, for many rebels, will simply not be true. (E.g. peaceful traders, etc.)
