Hi, we've got something cooking that's pretty close to what both of you are talking about. To curb enthusiasm - they are still single hex though.

Does @LennartGS mean there are, potentially, units that occupy a single hex entirely, so can't be stacked? Or is he just saying there aren't multi hex units?

Or both?

Reading the conversation it's not quite clear.

All units take up 1/6 of space in a stack.
There are no units occupying more than a single hex.
Quick run-by post to clear things up

Yep @Dr_K reasons we haven't done multi-hex units in TC is path finding and bottlenecks. Graphically it is not an issue at all. Ma be in a future game.

As for the boss comparisons, NPC factions have Tier IV's, that can be modded up, named and are associated with special spawn events.

Not particularly related, but I have vague recollections of someone saying that the Overlord series was made with the same game engine (Creator?) as some of the AoW games. Was that actually the case?

Yes, all of Triumph's games were build using our own tech, the creator engine.

Not that you can compare the first version to the current, there's been a lot of changes over the years.
We switched language - we're currently using C++ - went from strategy - to action adventure - back to strategy, changed middleware - audio, video, etc. - a bunch of times, etc.

Things still in there from the Overlord days are some of the basic data structures - the stuff modders change around - our home made animation engine, bits of the rendering, and the multiplatform setup that allows us to ship Planetfall on console. Naturally much of the game implementation was completely overhauled, as was core stuff like pathfinding.

Nice thing of having our own engine is that we know it inside out, so we can pull some fancy stuff. It also helps us distinguish our games from other games. Bit more work in some cases, but overall its a good thing. Not like there are any standardized engines for strategy games for sale anyhow : D>

Think I'll stop now before I get banned for going off topic ; )>.

Large flying Monsters might block the view on the units below it too much. There are solutions to all these issues, like pushing back units - its just a ton of work.
