So we know from WWW we can puppet states that exist, or release countries and then puppet them and give them land from their overlord, but what about an extra option:

creating a custom puppet nation that doesn't currently exist as a tag in the game and puppeting it. to use a really bad example, what if a victorious France decided it wanted to dismember germany for good and re-created the confederation of the rhine (which we will treat as a single state, or you could make lots of little satellites to be more realistic to it) among other concessions.

its a silly example, but i think it has a lot of potential for flavour, and for making a meaningful player victory when you can redraw the map exactly how you want once you've achieved a total victory after an epic struggle of years.

That was discussed alot of times already and sadly the devs didnt really replied to any of those. In my oppinion that should be a feature reserved for fascist nations only. Democratic nations cant puppet nations to begin with, so they already are ouf ot the race anyway. Communists would simply puppet the nations rather than annexing them aswell, since that is what their strengh is in HoI IV, bringing communism to the world. Giving the fascists, imperialst, nations the option to create client states to manage their completly overstretched empire for them, which was historically planned by germany by the way, and the possiblity to later on integrate them, it would add alot to the game in my oppinion.

What alot of people dont seem to know is that germany didnt plan to straight up annex everything west of the urals, but rather to basicly create client states, i.e "Reichskommisariate" / "R.K.". It would have been impossible for them to straight up annex basicly all of eastern europe. Those Reichskommisariate were civil administration with an "Reichskommisar" (Govenor) in charge. They basicly function like colonies.

Same goes for the japanese co-prosperity sphere. They didnt intend to straight up annex the pacific, but rather to puppet them. Japan would have been completly overstretched just as germany if they did that and wouldnt be possible to actually enforce the annexation.

Similar to.. say... Client States from EUIV?

We probably will see a feature such as this: just wait for a bit.

exactly like that. And of course the option to integrate puppets later on. Since we can expect about 2 expansions a year, just like EUIV, according to Johan it probably wont be long until such features that are missing in the main game will make their way with patches and expansions in.

Yes, there were. However these were all pre-existing nations that were annexed by China when the war with Japan began. At the start of the game in 1936, they were all independent nations.

Number7 is talking about creating countries that do not exist in 1936, like Ukraine, Scotland or a completely custom nation like the client states in EU4, which you can give land yourself.

True, but in HOIIV it would be "out of the blue" because there is no tag for Ukraine

Yup, custom nations like EU4 client states would be nice. Would open for a whole lot of things. Just let me select one or more states, hit a "client state" button, and choose a flag, name, and whatever else.

This could be used to replace the gamey and hugely overpowered HOI3 puppet system, come to think of it ;) .

I like it because I've wanted to do this for when I conquer areas with lots of little nations. I want to have them be one medium size state, but making a custom nation for say, Central America is a bit of work just for roleplaying.

So they have a German governor who rules them on behalf of Germany, and they function like colonies. So that would be annexation.

Just like Daniel did in the coastal regions of China in WWW. He created a new Japanese colony in China.

Correct, IRL they made some attempt to recruit local political leaders to front puppet states with their own armies and outward appearance of being independent sovereign nations.

Germany didn't, and couldn't given it's ideology. The closest it came was allowing Quisling some limited political power in Norway. But throughout the occupation of Norway there was always a German serving as the Reichskommissar for Norway in overall control of all civil affairs - Josef Terboven, from Essen and a leading member of NSDAP. Plus there were 100,000s of German troops stationed in Norway (1 for every 8 Norwegian citizen), the SS and Gestapo. Yet your map has Norway marked as if it was an independent country.

BTW, in your own map you have shown Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, parts of France, parts of Czechoslovakia, and all of Poland annexed to Germany.

But most laughingly of all it has Baku, Archangelsk, Tibilisi, Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk), Perm, Gorki (to name a few) and Moscow shown as part of Germany, all cities which not a single German soldier ever stepped foot in, and Murmansk and Leningrad (LMAO) as annexed as part of Finland.

So nothing which seems to have any historical significance on what the Nazis actually did, just seemingly the whimsy of someone who actually believed German troops would occupy Yekaterinburg. Which, incidentally, is east of the Urals.

This map isnt about what was during ww2, that map is what the goals of germany were after they won the war. Aside from parts of the ukrainian and baltic one no reichskommisariat was ever founded.

The only reason germany invaded norway and occupied it, was the threat the UK posed, not because they were interested in keeping it. The UK already disrespected norwegian neutrality by deploying mines in norwegian sea to attack the german merchant fleet staying in norwegian sea and also had plans to invade norway themself. That caused germany invading them, to protect their steel trades with sweden and to prevent the UK from establishing a bridgehead in scandinavia and cutting of trade from there.

Even tho denmark was occupied, most danish institutions continued to function relatively normally until 1943. Both the Danish government and king remained in the country in an uneasy relationship between a democratic and a totalitarian system until the Danish government stepped down in a protest against the German demands to institute the death penalty for sabotage.

I am not going to discuss this any further tho, since it has potential to end up drifting in a direction i am not willing to go.
