Attack on Pearl Harbor happened on 7th of December 1941.

My bad, got completely confused here. I was thinking about the approval of the plan on November 5th and wrote 1945. Thanks for pointing it out!

Edit: I corrected my mistake giving you credit in my original post to avoid further confusion. I still let the original mistake in parenthesis for reading clarity.

I have no memory of reading this anywhere. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong but I also have no memory that Pearl Harbor happened because of heavy spy work. It happened in 1945 and the planning started in 1941. It was mostly military planning and based on studying of previous British battles.

Wrong, there was spy work involved in Pearl Harbour to collect intel on the US defenses. Although indeed the most important part was studying the british raid on italian ships in port.

I have no memory of reading this anywhere. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong but I also have no memory that Pearl Harbor happened because of heavy spy work. It happened in December 1941 (corrected from from 1945 after being pointed out by Simon_9732495) and the planning started in early 1941. It was mostly military planning and based on studying of previous British battles. There is intelligence involved but like in anything else. Pearl Harbor is not a week work like the Coordinated Strike can be. Also it does not work with the current way the game works because naval battles can last a long time and the air force works in a linear way.

I think Coordinated Strike would be more comparable to all the intelligence collected for Operation Overlord, even then it was heavy military planning along with heavy intelligence.

You can easily go and read the Developer Diary yourself. They specifically stated Coordinated Strike is meant to model Pearl Harbor and the opening of Operation Barbarossa.

from my memory they had a spy stationed (in a brothel) to report on fleet movements.
edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeo_Yoshikawa

He was actually a naval officer on the Japanese consulate staff and had diplomatic immunity. Spent his nights being a playboy at a geisha house overlooking Pearl and memorized ship movements and docking in the morning. There was an old 1970s? documentary featuring him floating around the web.
