Right now the friend system has very limited use. We can't even chat or pm a friend to ask them if they want to play. If you invite a friend right into a game, chances are they won't even notice. I offer up 3 possible improvements.
1. Just improve what you already have. Add a simple message system to the friend system. Throw in server chat while you're at it.
2. If possible, integrate steam's friend system so we can actually communicate with each other outside a battle. A lot of the time, people just add you to their friends list and leave with the belief that it actually does something useful.
3. Make some sort of popup appear on your friend's screen when you invite them to a game. Maybe it does this already. I don't know, I can't tell because I can't chat with them if I don't already know their steam id.
