Issue: Based on what I have seen in WWW every state that a Player wants to add to the auto-garrison area has to be clicked on. There is no way to add mulitple states at once and it seems quite easy to missclick with smaller states / island states.
Overall it looks like feature a Player would use quite a bit while setting up his countries homedefence and once conquerd regions are secured and the front has moved on. But the two issues outlined above make it more of a hassle and more stressfull, especially in MP, then it has to be.

Solution: Allow players to either click on specific states (for precision) or to click and hold to draw-select/box-select multiple states.
Draw-select allows for more precision and works similiar to the other Battleplanner functions (like drawing a frontline, only with states instead of provinces)
Box-select makes it faster to select very large areas and is more familiar to HoI3 veterans, since they used it to "paint" the theatres of war in HoI3.

Note: This based on video footage. I haven't played the game. But the way @Da9L had to click on every state during WWW looked like it would become very tedious very fast.
So if this, or something similiar, is already possible just update the tooltip (which just mentions clicking on states and what auto-garrison does) and tell @Da9L to stop being a newbie and learn to play ;) (I wish I had 1000h+ of experience with HOI4)

Aye, being able to select 'air' or 'supply' regions (whichever would work best) might make it easier too. Good thoughts @GeBuch :).

I see multiple ways to improve that function. Most of us didnt played it yet and those who did cant talk about it of course, but garrison up the occupied soviet union seems like an unnessesary task. I see following functions that could work out well:

  • A click&drag function. Instead of clicking every single state, simply clicking once and draging the mouse over the states you want to garrison.
  • A shift+click function. A function to garrison up an entire (air)region, like northern france for example.
  • A ctrl+click function. A function to garrison up an entire occupied country.
The click&drag would come in handy if you wanted to garrison up coastlines for example, while the ctrl+click function would come in insanely handy if you want to garrison up the entire soviet union for example, which could otherwise end up in some sort of clicking nightmare.

Yep, good suggestions.
You'll probably only be setting up garrison areas a few times each game, so I don't think it should have the highest priority - but it should definitely be added. If not for release, then in a patch.

well, garrison areas are important, since unrest for example rises and spreads in occupied territory. If it gets high the resistance will give away strategic informations and lift the Fog of War for the enemy and they will damage and destroy your factories. I doubt that you want to move each MP division into position individually.

I don't see players setting up new garrison areas constantly either, while the front is nearby there should be enough troops to deal with any problem. Especially since troops stay back if there is not enough supply directly at the frontline. But once the front has moved signifcantly it will be necessary to garrison most places, either for their industry, ressources or for strategic reasons.

unrest works completly different to HoI IV. There is no more whack-a-militia system in the game. If you dont supress the resistance with units with military police attached, unrest will rise and spread. That will cause them to destroy factories AND, most importantly, narrow the supply channels, since they sabotage them aswell. That means of course that your frontline troops get less supply, which of course is a bad thing. As i said above they will also give the enemy vital information and lift the fog of war on areas with high unrest for the enemy. Especially in Multiplayer against human players that is probably the worst thing that could happen.

...unrest will rise and spread...

If I recall correctly, the unrest ticks up over time and if above a certain limit, then starts spreading. Much like you said.
But the point is: it ticks over time. So I do not think, that we'll need to be in a hurry to redefine garrison areas. In most cases (except huge Russia etc.) maybe just add the whole country after it is occupied.
Of course this is just my thoughts after seeing DD's and WWW's.
