This has been something I have thought about since EU2, actually. I think that it would be a good idea to allow players to automate (via a right-click menu) the pausing of every message in the game. The ONE place where I would really love to
see this is when "A call to arms" messages pop-up at the top or bottom of the screen. There are times when I would love to help an ally out but I am engrossed in some other aspect of the game while the speed may be a little too fast.
This probably happens more than it should and I lose my ally and a chance to fight.

I support this Idea... CK2 has forced-pause for many events and don't unpause until you made a decision. I think the same could be used in EU4 for many decisions: for example the enforced peace trick that allowed the Byzantium AAR to get some advantageous peaces before answering the Ottoman threat.

+1. finally after i got used to ckII style eu4 is different and i keep pausing and unpausing and pausing again.
i am one of those who play mostly singleplayer with occasional lan parties with friends. i understand it is useless for MP but I think it could be in for SP.

I am talking about the option for EVERYTHING. That little icon that pops-up that one MUST click on to see that they have been asked to go-to war should have an option to pause the game.

What you said about MP v SP reminded me of something I saw in the text files. In the logs it said that I entered a MP game even though we all obviously are click SP. Again something to remind us all that this is just a DEMO version of the game.

Force pause is nice as as toggle in Singleplayer, but a plague in Multiplayer.

If it's going to cause problems for multiplayer then I am strongly against it. EU4's MP will be the likes of which no previous Paradox titles had, hopefully it will be a better experience. If it's just SP then it's fine. But honestly, I don't remember EU3 having auto-pause. People who are used to CKII just need to adapt, it's not that hard to spot a notification nor is EU a game where you need to be pausing unpausing as much as CKII.

CK2 has the same pause options as EU3. This is not a CK2 noob vs EU3 elite thing.

This isn't even what I am referring too. I am asking for just the option in SP to be able to have more options on the things I can have the game auto-pause on. My biggest concern is requests from other nations. i.e. When one of your allies sends you a "call to arms", royal marriage requests, alliance requests. As I said in the OP and said specifically, there are times when I am engrossed in other aspects of the game and a call to arms request tab from an ally pops up at the top of the screen but I miss it on accident. This ruins the alliance, gives you negative prestige and then you lose out on going to war.

He's proposing that when you get a CtA, or any offers in bottom right that the game pause and present them to you. I for one would love this, as I always don't have time to react when I'm on speed 5.

I thought this idea sounded pointless at first but then just last night I was playing the demo and this happened to me. As Portugal, I was running the game speed fast and Spain called me to arms. I was unable to pause in time to respond and it broke my alliance.

Back in EUIII this simply wasn't an issue because the game wasn't fast enough to cause the problem.

You definitely should be able to enforce auto-pause for anything you want, and there should also be the option to disable it for MP or whatever.

Problem solved.
