Unless it would cause bugs, I can't think of any real reason not to let players change their country's map color, unit models (provided they've bought the DLC for the model they want to use), and even country name (but not tag, obviously). It would add a lot of fun to players who both take the game and history very seriously AND those who don't take it seriously at all. Plus, some of that functionality now already exists in the form of Client states.

Players who take the game very seriously could then model historical outcomes of their own nation however they'd like, and would be able to, for example, use the Genoa unit models when forming Italy from Genoa without downloading mods or altering code or requiring the devs to do anything about it. They could change their nation's name to that of a country that didn't exist during the game's timeline but could conceivably have done so without requiring the devs to waste time and code on things that were unlikely to happen (Yugoslavia? Czechoslovakia?).

Alternate history nuts could switch from Byzantium to The Roman Empire once they retake Rome or unite Ireland, take over Great Britain and declare themselves Celtia. Start as Navarre and re-build the tribes of the Vascones!

And people who take it not-seriously-at-all could make the Empire of Kickassakstan or the State of Denial, using all Aztec unit models, or play as a country that never even came close to existing during the timeframe of the game.

It would add more fun, it should be done!

I'd like it if they took it a step further and made a Nation Designer akin to the Ruler Designer for CK2.

Yeah, I'd pay $5 for functionality like this. Especially if it allowed for custom idea sets like the Ruler Designer allows for custom traits.

I would buy a country customizer dlc like the custom ruler dlc for CK2 in a heartbeat, make it non ironman compatible so people dont complain about achievements getting easier (or better make a bronzeman mode already) and let me play as any custom nation i want.

If the changes are only cosmetic, then it shouldn't affect it, but i was thinking about also designing your nation before the game starts, in the way you can completely design your ruler in CK2, so you could take any country and change everything, religion, tech group, government, flag, color...

Then people might abuse this like, they could make a gigantic Ottoman empire, colour it red, and call it Albania, then get a lot of glory for something not quite as impressive as a real enormous albania!

Perhaps limiting it to not being allowed to name a country after one already in game? So that you actually have to conquer all that stuff as Albania, or you have to actually FORM Romania, etc.

And also disallow spaces at the end or beginning, so that they won't hide "Albania " like this or " Albania".

I think this reason is probably why Paradox has not added this feature. People could claim false glory

That is true... But this false glory can already be kind of achieved by changing localisation.. I bet you can install a map mod.. take aragon.. conquer ottomans.. change localisation to name Aragon Albania.. claim you conquered Ottomans as Albania.

Not true at all. You can already "claim false glory" by using a mod or just playing with history files. I can start Albania with every province if I really want. The fact that someone could fake an accomplishment by renaming themselves chimu or Albania etc. is no reason to leave an awesome feature out.
