Currently, the trade centers are fixed even in the new world, where most provinces are not even permanently settled.

Thus, I propose a mechanism for creating new world important trade centers. Well, it's simple: each colonial region has a set amount of important trade centers (usually 0, 1, or 2). A region becomes eligible to create one ITC when the percentage of colonized provinces reach a certain number. At which point the province with the highest levelled trade power buildings gets selected. If multiple such provinces exist the system randomly chooses one.

This ensures:
  1. Coastal provinces usually get selected because they have a higher base trade power, and will get trade power buildings first. However, land provinces also have a chance.
  2. Early colonizers get an advantage in that they are most likely to get trade centers.

When the old world people wait for random cardinals from the heaven, the new world people work hard to get random trade centers.

Well, I'm not suggesting creating trade nodes nor trade routes. They do require a complete overhaul.

I am merely suggesting creating trade centers (the provinces with +20 trade power bonus) dynamically in the new world. It's hardly an overhaul...

It's a good idea. I suspect most will just end up on Estuary provinces, but perhaps that's realistic in the end.

Maybe provinces with unique trade goods in that colonial region after X provinces have had goods could get it too? It would be random yet sensible.

Which is why I suggested "highest levelled trade power buildings" instead of, say, highest trade power. In early colonization at least, all provinces will usually get the same level of building. So it's actually quite random. In late game however there are more levels of buildings including the exclusive ones, so one has to really sacrifice money, MP and the chance to build other buildings to get that trading center.

Maybe provinces with unique trade goods in that colonial region after X provinces have had goods could get it too? It would be random yet sensible.
That... sounds very interesting but I can't fully understand your idea. Do you mean there is a specific "target" good for each colonial region, out of provinces with that trade good a trade center is selected?

I actually posted a list of potential trade bonus provinces (many in the New World) based on geographic and historic reasons (estuaries, harbors, important river locations, etc.) that Wiz stated they were looking at for possible future trade provinces. I would say a more dynamic system, perhaps weighted towards geographically important provinces, would be very interesting.

Which is why I suggested "highest levelled trade power buildings" instead of, say, highest trade power. In early colonization at least, all provinces will usually get the same level of building. So it's actually quite random. In late game however there are more levels of buildings including the exclusive ones, so one has to really sacrifice money, MP and the chance to build other buildings to get that trading center.

But you're relying on your CNs to do this, which is never a good idea :happy:

Each province has certain weightings towards getting certain trade goods. If the chips fall so that some trade goods end up rare, it makes sense that those provinces would be more valuable. It'd be nice for it to be dynamic, but due to different weightings you probably could just target it for rare trade good provinces and have the same effect.

You are correct. I admit... actually I just want to make things more random, under the disguise of a carefully designed mechanism... :D

Rarity... well does that mean we can stealthily bring back the supply&demand mechanism by making the provinces with trade goods that's generated too few in the game more likely to get a trade center? :D That's ... awesome!
