hmm even considering in theory a paradox game must be taken seriously so i shall have to think about it for a moment....
How about finally giving the civilization's franchise a run for its money and making a strategy game which explores the possibilities of creating a civilization in greater depth (no offence to civi fans.. i like them too and especially so number 2)
I mean it could be great to have a game which offers the player first of all the choice of a new world map for each game and the possibility of playing with an existing map or a costume map created by the player with an editor. The game could start with a small tribal region in a limited map which expands as the game goes on; the game could offer the player the ability to develop his faction from a collection of tribes into a civilization by 1) establishing dominance in the region by a player decided combination of military might, trade and production/ monopoly over certain vital resources, diplomacy and alliances, culture/religion and that sort of thing. I am personally against the approach of separating these into different victory conditions and think that in this game the player would have to decided upon a healthy combination of these elements along with the game actually being built with all these elements directly involved with each other. Over the course of the game the player develops his faction by things such as the effects of absorbed cultures, tech and research, events in the game, the foods and materials the faction makes use of over a certain course of time and other thing.
if i am not making any sense tell me XD, i just really want to finally have a game which fully explores the possibility of starting from scratch and over time forming a great civilization... maybe even staying along and then starting another faction in the same game world in order to crush that civilization
The game should be challenging and being conquered by another faction should not be an unheard of event, instead it should be one of those events which brings the faction and its history to life. Maybe the faction is taken over by a powerful empire but also becomes a trading hub in that empire? maybe the faction is smashed by hoards of barbarians and has to deal with an ever changing populace and culture? the game should be less about the nation and more about the "land" (people, and culture)
i think i will stop now, this idea is impossible to truly describe as it is limitless in its forms, any thoughts?
