One thing that I miss in CKII is knights, a very important element of mediavel times.

The only thing (i think) that ressembles is the bonus true christian knight (is not even a trait), but i loved the first time I earned it.

So I would like to suggest some mechanic to create knights in the realm.

Knight is a trait that gives a bonus.

Some suggestions: monthly prestige;relations bonus with catholics, relations penalties with muslins; small income penalty (to pay for proper knight equipament) for martial bonus.

The char also gains the title sir in front of his name.

An ruler (or only indpendent ruler) and the pope can spend money, piety and/or prestige to give someone the knight trait in a ceremony.

In order to being knighted a character should have a minimun martial (say, 12) and not craven.

Courties and sons could ask to be knighted for the ruler (like they ask estates or titles)

Knight could be fired in battles when a soldier distinguishes himself in the battlefield (creating a male courtier with knight trait).

Knight could be given in battles for chars that already exist in game if they fight well.

Women with martial lady that can lead armies could get knighted.

There could be some events related to chivalry.

Knight could receive the trait false knight, that grants relations penalty (say, -5), if performs evil deeds, such as murdering kin or being cruel.

I dont know AGOT system

How does it work

Basically, when someone is tutoring a male child and has the knight trait, he can take up the child as his squire. The squire gets an "squire" trait. When he reaches 18 years, the knight has a decision to knight his squire. The squire loses his squire trait and gets a knight trait.
Thats it. The trait gives a little martial and prestige bonus.

Your suggestion don't make much sense... Knights in the middle ages were mostly not the same as British knighthood system today.

Most nobles are already knights in the middle ages. The high nobility which higher titles than count are knights. And their families too (not in the earlier period of CK2).

And the 'Sir' prefix is only a British thing... I don't know a equivalent outside of England.

And there were no female knights in the middle ages...

Really... the modern British knighthood system was introduced in the Renaissance with knightly orders. But knightly orders have nothing to do with the middle ages...

In the medieval Britain knights are low nobility without own vassals.

I actually agree, utilizing the GOT thrones mod knighthood system would make it interesting, as well as if this mod implemented the same kind of tournament system as in the GOT mod, where tournaments would be held more regularly and could be thrown by anybody (regional, ducal, and realm levels of tourney) and if the Knighthood system were in place it would also add to the immersion for picking who your commanders are, because as it is at the moment you get commanders from your court, when in real life, landless people of the court wouldn't necessarily be given command of armies that consist of feudal troops..... so the knighthood system would make it more interesting, also would love to see a family sword mechanic, I know there is a mod for that but last I checked it was rather dated and didnt have the same feel to it as in the GOT mod.
