I've been playing as Aragon happily waging wars against the infidels and my neighbors, the year is 1119 and sometime during this kings reign the succession law changed. What caused this or was it a bug?

I didn't think so, is that how it happens? My crown law is Low so I can't change it back
It changed in France in my game too without any notification anywhere. I was playing as Burgundy and i did not mind, though there did not seem like there was a reason for the King to change it. Maybe he was blackmailed by a Duke.

Depends on where you are. Succession laws can change by county. Some might have gavelkind, others primageniture. So for instance, if you give up some of your titles and you shift countys or duchies, it might shift your succession laws. I'm not sure how that works within kingdoms, but I know it happened to me when i was playing in Ireland.
Happened to me to. HRE emperor's crown law went to medium and all of the sudden after I recently changed to primogeniture (playing as Lombardy) it switched backed to gavelkind all on its own. I'm not entirely sure why low crown law needs to force vassals out of primogeniture given that from 1066 onwards it was slowly becoming the norm for european inheritance. Sure an argument could be made but given the decentralized structure of the HRE that would only get worse as time progresses it makes no sense to me to hamstring vassals into a gavelkind when in reality they would do as they pleased (i.e. float gravitate towards primogeniture more and more).
