Succession law insanity

I'd like to hear from a dev what the rationale for this system is; it certainly isn't how the British Royal succession works, where "Older sons and their lines come before younger sons and their lines. Older daughters and their lines come before younger daughters and their lines." (Wikipedia). In fact, I do not know of, nor could I find while browsing Wikipedia articles on succession, any instance in which the gender of a child determines the child's parent's place in the line of succession. Is this just an attempt to brush a bug under the rug? A bug that has tripped up many a player, because it isn't what anyone reasonable expects? Or did someone at Paradox really intend it to work this way, despite lack of real-world or historical examples?

Agnatic- Sons only, first son inherits.
Agnatic Cognatic- First son inherits, but if no sons are available then first daughter inherits
Absolute Cognatic- First child inherits, regardless of gender
The first two are available to everyone, the third is only available to basque nation, which is only Navara.
I think it's just a screwup in wording but this is what it probably was getting too

Personally, I don't mind either way that this goes. I am just glad to see that PDS is willing to divulge information about how succession works.

The main issue with succession, is that it was never really set in stone as to who would inherit. But because of game mechanics and only 4 options of succession, PDS must set these in stone for all cases.

Also your wikipedia link talks about succession law in todays world of one crown, not the 11th to 15th centuries.

If you have 2 daughters(no sons) under agnatic-cognatic primogeniture, and the first has not produced a son, but the second daughter has. The second daughter will inherit over the first daughter.

Agnatic is Male only, Agnatic-Cognatic is male preference, Absolute Cognatic is equal gender.

These terms are game terms and not 100% accurate to the real world variances.
