Hi all,

Having just recently reformed from a tribal state to a feudal one, I'd like to get rid of gavelkind, and move either to feudal elective or primogeniture. However, each time I try, 5 or 6 out of my 8 relevant vassals vote no, even some of those who have a +100 opinion of me. How do I persuade them to accept the law change?

Thanks!

Huh?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought succession laws didn't need vassals approving them? Unless switching from Elective, that is.

If you're switching from Elective Gavelkind, you'll need a vote...which I assume is what he's doing.

Insofar as the voting goes, it varies according to the nature of the change -- but let's say we're looking at going to Feudal Elective:

  • Base chance of a "yes" vote: 43%
  • x0.01 if the ruler is your current heir
  • x0.5 if the ruler is in the Tradition faction.
  • x0.5 if the ruler is not part of your realm.
  • x0.5 if the ruler is your dynasty.
  • x2.5 if the ruler is NOT of your dynasty (they like feudal elective)
  • x0.5 if you have Autonomous or Low CA
  • x2 if you have High or Absolute CA
  • x10 if the ruler has 100 opinion of you
  • x5 if the ruler has 75+ opinion of you
  • x2 if the ruler has 50+ opinion of you
  • x0.5 if the ruler has 25 or less opinion of you
  • x0.01 if the ruler has 0 or less opinion of you
So, as you can see, having a high opinion is almost essential (those positive factors are cumulative) -- particularly if you have other negative factors.

The exact conditions could probably use some tweaking (these were done a LONG time ago, and are pretty standard across the various types with some minor tweaks between them), but that's what it currently is.

Yep, switching from elective gavelkind, since I'm just coming out of tribalism. Ah ok, so it doesn't help that I'm on low CA - I'm still on the first king to reform the Finnic faith and go feudal, so Low is as high as I can go without him dying and the realm fragmenting between his kids. Clearly I still need to do some more winning over. Thanks for the responses!
