Can anyone explain to me why even with the same Succession law for both the Kingdom of Greece and Byzantine Empire ( Primo) I will lose the Kingdom of Greece to my dead first born sons son (my grandson) and the empire going to my second born?

Byzantine imperial succession is governed by the Born in the Purple trait. It's a trait that's given to your kids that are born *while you are emperor.* Peeps with the trait "jump the line" in front of those who don't have it. So let's say I have four sons:
Joe, age 6
Stephen, age 4
Frank, age 3 - Born in the Purple
Imhotep, age 1 - Born in the Purple
The actual succession order is Frank, Imhotep, Joe, Stephen.
There is, however, a "Despot" honorary title that counts as Born in the Purple for succession purposes. That's a common workaround if you have non-BitP kids you really want to inherit. In the example above, I could make Stephen or Joe a Despot and they'd be first in line to succeed me. Not sure if you can give it to grandkids, though.

As above, Born in the Purple is tied to the (Eastern / Restored) Roman Empire titles. The way it's implemented is super wonky and as you've discovered, it causes succession chaos if the Emperor holds any other Empire or Kingdom titles and has children without BitP and/or grandchildren. You can sort of fix it by modding and making the Kingdom of Greece use BitP mechanics, but any holder of that title will then produce kids with the BitP trait, even the Seljuks if they invade and take Greece. The only real fix you have is to destroy the Kingdom title, and never, ever hold Kingdom titles as E/R Roman Emperor.

What'll happen if you hand out Greece as a viceroyalty? You'd still keep all your personal demesne within it, right?
Yes. You will also keep duchies if you hold them as well.
I'm not sure, but the greek king might get some "desires X" modifiers since they are part of his De Jure kingdom. I think this is why Byz doesn't have the Greek Kingdom made by default. Best bet is probably destroying it.

I had forgotten that born in the purple did not apply to kingdoms , I land all my male family members when possible to make the game more interesting so it doesn't really matter which male gets it. Thanks for the help everyone.
The honorary title of Despot can be granted to any desendant of your current character. So Grandkids are ok

You could also give your Purple Born heir the kingdom title if you don't want to play as the grandson.

Or alternatively, destroy it. Holding Greece as Byzantine Emperor is needless hassle.
