Can't you just disable it for a little while? Or make an exception for that site.

Btw can we put screenshots in spoilers from now on (as Myquandro has done on the top of this page)? If you have a slow connection (as I'm blessed to have), the pictures make the forum jump up and down as they load gradually, making it rather annoying to write replies.

I will edit this post with a few pics of my own shortly... ;)

EDIT: I'm too lazy to embed the pictures; there's only 7 this time, so be sure to check them out:

I don't want to get into this too much at the moment, but I've found a map that seems to be perfect for me. Södermalm Wetland is well designed map build as a lot of islands in a big river. Just to name some point that make it a good map in my opinion:
- Two main area's on the side for a lot of city expansios with 4 larger islands possible for a large city center and 12 small to very small islands that can be used for services and/or personal districts
- River has shipping routes, so a lot of harbours can be placed which gives a lot of room for good traffic choices
- Land is flat, so it gives a lot of room for building very large cities, but it's not dull and the river shapes the city a lot
- Good amount of resources while not having too much of it (although there is more then a city probably uses)
- European city style (if this is a good thing is up to you, but I like it)
- There is no realistic option for building a dam, but a lot of options for building wind turbines

I'll post some pictures later in this thread or as a link to imgur.

Dammit -- do people not sleep or something? :p European theme has been out for what, a month or so? And already there are maps like this out there on the SW... I've no objections to using this map in our next game. Imo, the only flaw in it is that since resources have been laid out to 'simulate' fields, they lead to an abnormal abundance of ore etc in the middle of Swedish farmland. No big deal imo, as the speed of resource depletion in the current game means that we might as well just use regular industries and keep the fancy-looking patches for beautification, as intended. (Too bad there are no realistic-looking farms in the game though!)

Btw I noticed a slight problem with my map concept (if I'll even continue making my map, as there are probably even better maps than Södermalm available on the WS)... Highways cannot be laid in tunnels in the map editor, meaning that they'll muck up the beautiful, 'historical' feel of the city right from the get-go. :( Why can't we use water-buses on the channels, to make a 'Venice re-born'? Get on it, modders! :)

The problem in the game is that oil and ore deposits are used too fast. It takes maybe up to five years in game time before the industry has to import these things, that's too fast to be usable in my opinion. I that way, the layout of the map isn't a problem as I wouldn't use oil and/or ore. An option would be to use a mod that creates unlimited oil and ore, which is a bit like cheating and the map layout becomes a downside.

For now I will keep looking for great maps like this and maybe create one myself (although I don't think I can match the quality of these kind of maps)

That's on the Last Paradise map, right? Are you using Traffic++ in your game (you didn't mention it, so I'm wondering)? I notice you're using a lot of connecting roads; how's that working out for the traffic?

In Traffic++ there is the option of using 'pedestrianized roads' (can't remember their exact name) that can be used by pedestrians, services and emergency vehicles only. I can envision building a city that's using only these types of roads, some dedicated roads for delivery truck traffic, and good metro / bus services! Even better would be a cobble-stone road for the European map style... (I'm gonna open my mouth in wonder if that can't already be found on the WS.) Some elevated trains would also be nice, even if they're unnecessary from a game-play pov. Just imagine the scenery! --Although these would look even better on the Last Paradise map... Oh dear. It seems like I'm rambling; if there's a point to take away from this mass of words, it's that I'm anxious to start a new game, whether as an SG or just in single player. :D

I've been thinking about the system for the new district-based SG, but I think it will take some time before I'm ready to post about it. It doesn't help that the game provides no tools that'd help the SG format; some kind of 'blue prints' option would be really nice for drawing plans, so it's easier for future mayors to try and adhere to them. --Another problem is that there may not be enough roles for all players, if there are to be 'managers' for specific portions of the city (services, large roads, etc). There's probably a Rosetta stone to all these problems, and it'd help if I made a thread about it, but I'll let it stew in my head for another while.

EDIT: @Spockyt: Have you picked up the save yet? Just so we know you're playing. You did sort of announce it already, but let's stick to the protocol now that it's actually your turn.

@JerkyJerry: Too bad your turn got skipped; as long as you'll explain it you can play your next turn ofc.

I guess we're dropping TheChaoticVoid from the roster... Two skipped turns and not a peep from him in a long time. (To be fair, he probably saw the traffic in our city (pre-Great Untangling), and went, 'for the sake of the Great Spaghetti Monster -- I'm not gonna bother!' :p)

I'm now building my own map that can probably be used for a next SG. I'm still working on it to make it look a bit better and to get some flatter lands for building a city. At this moment it basically is a European map with hills (no mountains) around a bay. It has one river (with a small waterfall) that is ideal for two dams. In the bay are a few islands that might be ideal for a city center and maybe a few personal districts. I will post some pictures later today or maybe tomorrow.

I'm not using T++, but I'm using German roads for faster connections and all of ARIS mods. In addition, I'm using a slightly tweaked Realism building capacity mod, with which all low density houses host one family only (I added a second family to levels 3-4 and one more to level 5). I'm looking forward to unlock high density to see the mess that my currently perfect road system can create!

I'm also using fine roads height and road engeneering to fight against the terrain.

The map is the same we're using in our current game, between airport and oilton.

EDIT: posted in Post your City! thread

So... @Spockyt, are you playing now? Three skipped turns in a row would be a bit much. o_O

I'm mainly writing to notify everyone that I'm going on a 4-day cycling trip starting either Sunday or Monday. So, if my turn comes up in that timeframe, just skip it and I will play when I get back.

I downloaded German Roads too, but I'm not using it atm. I'm slowly learning the intricacies of Traffic++, trying to build a proper bus system from the start (well, when buses become available). What baffles me a little bit about the pedestrian roads is that by default they have car traffic enabled, albeit at a 15 km/h speed limit. That goes against the description, which says that it's services + pedestrians only. Luckily it's simple to edit the roads to allow only the promised modes of traffic, but it will get very tedious in bigger cities. -.-
Also, I'm playing on Hard and I'm quite strapped for cash... Three lousy buses cost over 900 $ / week (or month, can't remember which unit the game uses)! On Hard I think it's quite possible, at least in the beginning, to screw up the city's finances so badly that it's hopeless to recover. So if we play our next game on Hard, probably the most accomplished players should go first and second. As to who those might be, I have my candidates, but let's vote about it just to be all democratic and stuff. :)

I'm not good at all at financial management, so I won't be one of those first two.

German Roads is very simple, much more simple of T++ actually. It only adds new roads, all without pavements, zoning and traffic lights:
- 4 lanes 2 way avenue with speed limit of 100
- 4 lanes 2 way avanue with speed limit of 200
- 2 lanes 2 way road with speed limit of 100
- 2 lanes 1 way road with speed limit of 80
- 3 lanes freeway with speed limit of 200

With those roads (that cost a lot to mantain) you have more options for inter-city connections.

About busses: I opened a thread in feedback and suggestions

How is going with Spockyt? I expected him to play his turn, as he has been posting in this thread. If it turn out that Spockyts turn is skipped I'm I correct that it's then Calads turn again (starting with a new round)?

Yes, it's Calad's turn if Spocky doesn't post his in three days' time. It is a bit concerning that he's been so silent, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

JerkyJerry also hasn't posted since his skipped turn... Perhaps interest in the game is waning as the city's becoming more and more of a mess? :p I know I'm anxious to start again on a 'clean slate', but I won't abandon this game just yet. :) Even without Traffic++, I have a few ideas on how to improve the old areas, and to make better new ones.

I'll be leaving for my trip on Monday, and won't return until Friday at the earliest. If Spockyt shows up with his turn, it might be that my turn comes up before my return. Like I said, just postpone it by one or two spots and I will play when I get back. (I should return with lots of great park ideas, as well as cycling ones, since I'll be going on a bike-trip to a nearby national park! :))

To me it's about the same. I have a lot of ideas for this city, both in managing traffic and in creating new parts and "enhancing" existing ones with parks, monuments, etc. But I've also got a lot of ideas that just need a new city, a blank slate, an empty canvas. New highway designs, new major districts, improved service placement, better public transportation.

For now I agree to give some extra time Spockyt to get the save and play his turn. But if people are getting bored (or lose the will to play otherwise) with this city as it progresses we might start a new SG alongside this one. Then I (for as long as it last) with some other keep playing this while we all (for those who want) start fresh on a new map, with some new rules and some mods. I wouldn't have any problem playing two SG's at the same time as these leave more then enough free time to do a few (three would be my max, could do more but wouldn't like that). It doesn't matter to me (yet), but if someone wants to start a new city now then please tell so we might start one sooner.

It might also be a good thing to open a thread for the second SG soon to get it ready for when we want to start it and to discuss the things like the map, the mods, the rules, etc. I wouldn't mind opening and even "moderating" that thread, but I know that on the long run I don't always keep focused and interested which might result in insufficient moderation, guiding of the thread.

@stiiknafuulia I wouldn't have any problem with a bit of a delay at the moment. I've got four exams in the next two weeks and I have to finish some papers, both for my study, which takes a bit of time. That means that I won't be able to play as much as I would like (as it takes several hours to do things right). So, if it would be my turn within a week I would have to switch turns or something most likely.

PS. This thread has become (after it already was the most replied to thread in the "City Journals and Let's Plays") the most viewed "City Journals and Let's Plays" thread.

Even though I should've been preparing for my trip, I've formulated the planning thread for the new SG (I'm not sure about the policy of these forums, but imo it's best to plan the game in one thread and then actually play it in another one, so as to not clutter up the game thread with the various mod negotiations etc. There are lurkers to consider after all! :)).

So, here you go: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-game-metropolis-or-city-by-committee.863032/

@Spockyt: You have until Wednesday 12:30 PM (forum time; I guess for me it's Finnish time? So GMT+2) to finish your turn (assuming that you're playing *knocks on wood*).
After that it goes to Calad... However, I'm pretty sure that he'll be caught up in Midsummer festival preparations by that time. It's a big thing in Finland; people drive off to
their cabins in the middle of nowhere, shiver in the freezing rain that usually prevails at this time of the Finnish summer, and drink until they can't tell a lake from
dry land, let alone right from wrong or somesuch trivial issues. (I must make certain that I'm home by that time; as the only non-religious Finn who doesn't drink, I hate
that 'party' with a passion that I'm wise enough not to describe.)

I think we need some new players... So my turn again?

Over 9000 views and 300 replies. Thank you for all lurkers!
It's a bit unclear, because Spockyt seemed to indicate that he's playing, yet he failed to give a 'got it!' in the allotted time (48 hours). It's your call whether you'll start your turn now or if you'll want to wait until Wednesday 12:30 (when a week has passed and Spockyt's turn should be over).

TheChaoticVoid I guess is not returning... JerkyJerry has also been quite silent lately, and he skipped his most recent turn. So if they'll both remain MIA, we've got 5 players left. It's enough imo, but I could go with 6. Let's wait a little bit to see if JJ returns though.

As for me, I postponed my trip by one day, so I'm only leaving tomorrow. I should return by Friday afternoon, so right in time for my turn I guess (although ItalianGuy has usually been very quick in playing his turns).

I'm so sorry. I've had a very busy week, and this went right out of my head. Now, obviously I remember now, but I have people coming to my house, so I have to help tidy today and tomorrow, so I won't have a chance to play... so go right ahead and start, Calad. Again, I'm sorry, and I obviously understand that I can't just have my turn added in later, but I would request that I can play again next time round.
