I have found two bugs.
One with province names (screenshots 20170801192931 and 20170801192036). Second I don't know why troops are moving on water without ships (screenshot 20170801234208).
Thanks for your hard work. This map is beautiful.

@Marinakis Played a few hours with the new map. It really makes a difference. ;)
All good so far except a possible bug report. 1066 start, when I click on the county of Salerno's emblem (Sicily) my camera automatically goes to the end of map near Africa. Also Principato is missing from the DeJure county setup of Salerno and the though the kingdom's panel say it exists, the setup is wrong. Any way for me to quickfix this ???

Cheers.

Fixed

Speaking of Ireland, Airgialla of d_ulster is missing.

strathclyde of d_strathclyde is missing.

Amalfi of d_napoli is missing.

Arigh of d_zab is also missing.

Fixed, fixed, fixed, fixed

At a glance, is the Aral Sea in your map shown how it was in the 1980's rather than 800 years ago (or even 70 years ago before the Soviets started destroying it)?

I tried eyeballing it and filling it back in based on the topography elevations. If you have nice map or picture with exactly what it looked like in the 9th century, please share.

love the release but not sure what I think of the extension of Cyrenaica; It seems too square to me.

one more missing province: c_heves of d_ujavar

Yeah I have been going back and forth between what I would do and hw the map currently is. That region varies so widely on maps of Islamic Egypt, and the HIP creators decided to add a very southern province into the duchy.

If I keep the region as I personally think is most accurate for the 9th century, the southern province would be out of place.

Needless to say, it's a work in progress.

.

Well HIP has it set up right. Though there are several maps on Wikipedia alone and tons more show up in a 'old Aral Sea map' Google search.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aral_Sea#/media/File:Survey_of_the_Sea_of_Aral_1853.jpg

I primarily just noticed the more recent sea map based on you having Vozrozhdeniya attached to the mainland which didn't even happen till 2001 and originally was a pretty tiny island. A map from even 100 years ago is probably going to be pretty accurate for the 9th century as well given that the sea wasn't dying until the Soviets did their environmental changes.

everything looks nice and I think I found my problem with Cyrenaica:

The bottom left is square and extended past Tripolitania where the maps I've seen have a rounded border for Cyrenaica that connects to Tripolitania at the bottom or a slightly higher point then the bottom.

Lets give you a little hand at where you could/should start improving.

Dwin is almost completely out of position in your setup. A tiny bit of your Dwin province is on the right side of the Araxes river (the Eastern side), but the rest is on the wrong side of the Araxes river (the Western side). All the Holdings in the Dwin province is on the Eastern side.

Goghtn is completely out of position in your setup. All the Goghtn holdings are on the other side of the Araxes river (the Eastern side), while your Goghtn province is on the Western side

Baghk is mostly out of position. In your setup it is mostly occupying the position that Goghtn should be in, it should be pushed a bit east.

You could easily move it east by making Arran a bit skinier. It's way skinier in our setup than in yours

Also Baghk and Haband has holdings on the northern bank on the Araxes river, but you've given the Northern bank to Tabriz and Oromieh, you could fix this by pushing Tabriz and Oromieh to the southern bank of the Araxes river and set the border between the provinces on the Araxes river.

I added impassable borders to huge mountain ranges or the edges of impassable deserts with the aim of adding more strategy to empire building.

I added passes though the borders where there were actual historical montain passes, roads or well establshed trading routes.

Let me know what you guys think.

Well for the caucuses I just looked up mountain passes,
What was your source for passable passes ?

Well, there wasn't one easy reference for them, I just looked up the main montain ranges in a given region and looked at the topography for the main roads/Valleys into and out of them. Armies wouldn't generally March over major mountain ranges. For North Africa, I just looked up the salt trade routes and tried to follow that. I figured armies wouldnt just March into the desert, they would follow established trade routes/roads.

With that being said, this is Beta - I'm testing things and getting feedback.
