Subjugate Algiers CB "problem"

So i got the mission to subjugate Algiers. Declared war, beat them up and then went to peace deal but i can't make them my vassal as the war score needed is 149%. Am i remembering wrong that you can subjugate any sized nation with this kind of mission? I'm not confusing this CB with the PU CB.

Nope, unfortunately it will take multiple wars (and don't gimp them too much, or else someone else might take a slice of the pie while you're waiting for the truce to expire). This notably occurs also for Poland and the TO.

Not "any" size. You do get a 50% discount on the required score IIRC, but they can easily be too big regardless, especially if they've eaten some of Morocco.

What is the point in getting this CB then? Surely you shouldn't be able to get this CB if you can't even use it. And it's not actually easy to figure out if you can vassalize a nation in a war because of the buildings etc.

Its a CB, and nothing says you need to take only one war.

One thing I've discovered is that fabricating claims on their provinces can lower the warscore cost for vassalizing them too. Whenever I try to vassalize a big country, I always fabricate claims on as much of their land as possible, even if I have no intention of taking any of it. You may have to fiddle around in the peace negotiations a little to make it work, but I've done this in order to vassalize the Teutonic Order in one war, for instance. It probably wouldn't help much if the required warscore was over about 120-ish% though.
