So I was playing as Kaffa, it went pretty great, i PU'd Alodia, got some Adal lands, killed the minors around me and after 20 years i PU'd Ethiopia aswel. So I thought things are going great and vassalized Yemen, gave him his cores back and forced his religion. Again I think this is the greatest Kaffa game I played, especially after i integrated Alodia. I was a great power and Ethiopia's liberty desire went down to 13%, Yemen however was fluctuating between 50% and 55%, suddenly the Mamluks started supporting the liberty desire of Yemen, and started a war 1 month later, to my surprise my very happy PU Ethiopia joined THEM in this war, like what is going on here? i was about to go integrate them in 6 months... they were coptic and the same culture group as me, so I just don't understand why they would side with the Mamluks instead of with me against Yemen (who was half coptic by this point) and Egypt. I know liberty desire goes up when your vassals think they can beat you together, but shouldn't the Mamluk's troops only count towards Yemen and not Ethiopia?

Probably means Ethiopa's liberty desire was above 50% for awhile and during that time they made an alliance with Yemen. That alliance would have remained in place after their liberty desire dropped again so as soon as Yemen declared Ethiopia honoured their alliance and joined them.

Not sure how you get subjects to break those alliances, other than by ensuring one of them is no longer a subject at least.

Usually the only recourse is to get in a war (declaring or defensive) against the power supporting your subject's independence... in this case, Kaffa should had declared war on the Mamluks to drop Yemen LD below 50 (and subsequently Ethiopia's would drop).

If a loyal subject joins a war against its overlord for any reason other than the overlord declaring on them directly, it's objectively a bug and should be reported as one. These alliances *should* instantly break regarding loyal subjects.

OP is well within rights to save scum the heck out of this and declare on Mamluks to avoid the broken interaction.

Restarting would have probably reset the attitude of Ethiopia towards Yemen and cancelled the alliance. That's a common bug; when you restart some alliances are broken, coalitions disband...
