Thematic Additions v0.4
Updated 09/05/2014

This is a small mod designed to add flavour to CKII through small and
unobtrusive systems. It allows your characters to join Holy Orders, learn
ancient knowledge, and more.

This mod is primarily intended to compliment HIP, therefore when at all possible I shall
attempt to use new files rather than alter existing ones. Hopefully this will make the
mod automatically future-proof for any HIP additions.

Those of you who were fortunate to play The Prince and the Thane when it was still
compatible with Paradox patches may be familiar with some of the ideas in this mod.
Thanks should therefore go to idib816 and Wiz for both some of the base code, and the
inspiration to make this mod.
This mod is not an attempt to replace TPatT, or step on VIET's toes for that matter. I
lack the time (and patience) to conduct the research necessary for such a monumental task.

I am receptive to all thoughts on how to improve and expand Thematic Additions. I would
prefer to keep things as 'realistic' or believable as possible, in the same vein as HIP,
but feel free to mention anything else.

Regards,
Calantyr

Compatibility:

Should be fully compatible with Vanilla, as well as all combinations of HIP.

Any. I've made it so it should be compatible with any loading of HIP.

I've already got some AGoT sub-mods, a version of this might make it into that.

You should post in the first post which mod it is compatible with and what version to avoid any confusion. And it is only HIP, right?

Very intersting concept and idea ,however, and this could be expanded a lot more! It is mostly centered around the crusader states if I understand correctly?

Updated the first post with your suggestions. And no, it will work with Vanilla as well.

The initial release focuses mostly on the Crusader states (Templars, woohoo) but any Christian ruler can interact with them via buildings, persecution, or joining the Order.

The next update will likely focus on the Teutonic Knights, and after that the Hospitaliers, Knights of Santiago, etc. However this will only happen once I think the current release is bug-free and balanced, so feedback please!

I'm thinking I'm the only one that's actually downloaded this, because the archive contains 'AGoT Immersion Enhancement.mod' which makes this unusable. I made the file on my own instead so I can use it for now, but you might want to do a hotfix/re-upload.

EDIT: I installed it and played with it for a bit, chose Ludwig the German in the 867 start. I died a bit later, it's currently May 868 and around a thousand random characters have the Classical Fluency traits (including myself, which I got about a year after the game started)!

Also, looking at the rulers that have these traits, it seems to be rather hit and miss. Two kings in India have these traits and both of them are Buddhist. One has a Learning of 8 and the other has a learning of 23 with a Scholarly Theologian education. In total, there are approx. 65 Buddhist characters that have the fluency traits, which I'm assuming is because of their extremely high learning bonus.

On the other hand, the Coptic Pope, Ecumenical Patriarch, and King of Georgia are all fluent in Classical Greek, which makes more sense to me. I really just think the MTTH of the events for the traits should be higher, if only because there are so many factors that that lower it currently. Also, have you thought of increasing the time it takes in-between the 'trying to learn' event and actually gaining the trait? Seems too quick and easy for learning a language from scratch, especially if you're thousands of miles away... Could it perhaps take a longer/shorter time to learn depending on culture group? An Italian would learn Classical Latin much faster than a Zoroastrian Persian, for example.

There is also a pair of minor typos in the event description. It currently says 'competant' instead of 'competent'.

Thanks, this is exactly the feedback I need. Unfortunately my testing time is limited now my baby is teething.

I'll rise the MTTH across the board in the next version.

EDIT: Uploaded, and I think I crushed all the bugs. If this works well I can expand it.

Version 0.4 uploaded. Since I'm still waiting for feedback I'm holding off expanding the system to the Teutonics etc. Instead I've started implementing unique buildings/sites. So far only Constantinople and Rome are represented, but eventually I want to have these scattered all over the map. These should give mechanical benefits to owning certain locations, not just for roleplaying/completion. Eventually they will have events associated with them. Suggestions welcome.

I am undecided on this. I included Old St Peter's and Hagia Sophia because they were both builings with great history, aethetics, prestige, and seats of religion heads. In essence, unique. I'm not sure if other Christian cathedrals would match that criteria, but I am open to suggestions.

Also there are already about 15-20 unique Christian buildings that I am considering, I don't want them to get *all* the love.

Ok, seems like a good decision. What do you plan for the Kingdom of Jerusalem- area?

Ok, seems like a good decision. What do you plan for the Kingdom of Jerusalem- area?

This is not a complete list, some might be dropped and others added:

Temple Mount (Including the Wailing Wall, Second Temple, and Dome of the Rock)
Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre
Church of the Nativity
King David's Tomb
Chapel of the Ascension
Cave of the Patriarchs
Church of the Annunciation
Domus Aurea

Essentially, Jerusalem will be highly desireable with lots of opportunities for piety/prestige. It will make sense to fight for it, even if it doesn't have a lot of holding slots.

Just had a look at Rome and Constantinople in v0.4, and they look (and feel) great. I look forward to playing the next versions of your mod, as I think this is a nice addition to HIP. Thanks.
