Ok here is whats stupid :-\

im playing a GC as Brandenburg its 1422 and I am at war with Pommern I am seiging one if their provinces with 20k infantry everything is going fine in then out of nowhere poland declares war, 3000 polish troops start to seige the same province im going for and all of a sudden the province will go to poland once its seiged..

That dosnt make sense to me just cause they have a better leader they will take the province with 3000 troops when i already have 20000 troops trying to seige the province?

You could pull your troops out, and let the Poles be beaten by the Pommeranian forces (if there are any), and then move back in.

What if you declare war on Poland and siege the province they had captured from Pommern. Would you gain control or would it revert back to Pommern?

The general rule for sieges is, 1) whoever started the siege gains control. 2) If a leader's involved, who ever has the highest rank gets the siege (I'm guessing King is highest, not sure of the hierarchy below that). Same rank: see rule 1)

You'll get it if you declare war on Poland and Poland already has control of it (and if you are at war with Pommern) I think.

But some kings lose to other kings. I once had some swedish king, and my ally was some german minor, maybe hannover. I sieged with my king's army, king right there, and always there comes 15k hannoverian army with their stupid leader, and there goes my siege. I diplo-annexed them as revenge.

That was a very good revenge Iso-A.

To go back a little while.
When your ally, Poland takes over your siege and you DOW him for that you will never get the fullest merits of the war and in fact have already lost it with an enormous BB hit and a reputation crash unsurpassed in history.... :)

I'm not sure that's all there is to it, unless some countries produce generic leaders of higher rank than others. I have had sieges with generic leaders taken over by foreign armies also under generic leaders. I've regularly had to sit and watch helplessly while my forces were being decimated in an assault after an unexpected take-over of my siege.

Perhaps that king was the HRE?

when you don't have enough troops to siege a province and the other country has you will lose your siege to them.
Your troopsize probably plummeted thnaks to atriion caused by the AI sending a large army in the same province.

Ranks like General, King,... don't have any real influence on who will lead the siege. Every general has a rank that is a number

example:
historicalleader = {
id = { type = 6 id = 09580 }
category = monarch
name = "Konstantinos XI"
startdate = {
year = 1424
}
deathdate = {
day = 29
month = may
year = 1453
}
rank = 0
movement = 4
fire = 3
shock = 3
siege = 0
}

this guy has a rank of zero, he will command any sieges he enters unless another rank zero commander id present.
Leaders with a high rank (kings, field marshals) simply tend to have a lower number in their rank entry. Others, like most explorers and conquistadors, have a rather high score

While it's technically true that what the game enine takes into account is the number rank of a leader, isn't there a simple correspondence between what a leader's number rank is and what is displayed in words within game?

Colonel - 4 / 5
Maj.General - 3
Lt.General - 2
General - 1
Field Marshal / Monarch- 0

FROM Havard's web page:

The ranks are shown in the game like this:
Code:
[FONT=Courier New]
Rank value Land leaders Naval leaders
0             Field Marshal   Lord Admiral
1             General         Admiral
2             Lt. General     Vice Admiral
3             Maj. General    Rear Admiral
>4            Brigadier       Flotilla Admiral [/FONT]
Monarchs should allways have rank = 0. All generic leaders have rank Colonel (land) or Commodore (naval).
