I'm not sure if this has been addressed, in updates, or in Armageddon or HOI 3, but in the initial release of HOI 2 -- Doomsday (which is the version I have and use), there is one STUPID rule that burns me up, and I SIMPLY can't allow. It's the ruling that if a province is taken over, by the enemy, when air units are on the ground ....... all air units are destroyed. This ruling just ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT make sense !! Even air units, are comprised of armed land defense units, to some degree, and, like any military base, especially in war, they are CONSTANTLY on guard, and ever vigilant about activity going on around them. Even during WWII, and with the fog of war, large enemy unit whereabouts were known, to a degree, due to reconnasance activites. Yet, the game allows an invading land unit to suddenly attack, and destroy air units !! Without warning, you suddenly get the message "Enemy In Sight", your province, if it has no defending land units, is taken over, and your air units are destroyed and lost !! This is usually because you've moved out the accompanying land units, and forgot about the air units.

I can imagine the real life senario running out ....... First, all the land units that are protecting the province, and your air units, are moved away, and NOONE in any of the air divisions thinks to tell commanders, "Aaaaah, if the land support is removed, those enemy divisions, over there, can EASILY over-run us !! We better keep the land support, OR relocate" !! Second, as I mentioned, with bases CONSTANTLY being guarded ....... how can WHOLE DIVISIONS of ground units ........... tanks and trucks ..... rumbling down the road, NOT be noticed, and acted upon !!! It only makes sense that if the attacking unit was small enough to approach the base, unnoticed, it COULDN'T do much damage, to WHOLE DIVISIONS of air units !! Base personel would hold them off, while the base was evaculated. And if it WAS a large attack force, approaching he base ......I'm SURE the base personnel would just sit there, while they took over the base, and destroyed the planes !!?? (Sarcasm)

In reality, if a base was attacked, by ground ...........how long would it take to get the pilots out of their bunks, and into the planes, to fly them out !!?? Even a LARGE number of planes could most surely be MOSTLY evacuated, without damage !!

To this effect ...... this is the ONE instant, in HOI 2: Doomsday, where I CANNOT accept the outcome of the gameplay, as it unfolds !! Whenever I lose air divisons, in this manner, I simply reload the game from the last save point, and continue. AT WORSE, a random SMALL amount of the units planes, or strength to those units, should be lost !!

Other opinions are welcome.

Yes, this was something we addressed in Arsenal of Democracy. Air units based in provinces that are conquered move automatically to another base (assuming you have one) with a (major) loss of ORG.

Just out of curiosity, are they moved to the nearest friendly airbase or to the deployment pool?

He said another base.
