OK, so I'm France and somehow Norway got into Brittany and conquered Brittany's last province before I could do it. Bummer, eh?

But sooner or later Norway picks on a friend of mine and I get invited to the party. I roll in and take the province without breaking a sweat. But I've got only about a +6% truce advantage over Norway, so they won't give up. Everything else being peaceful, I sail off to enforce my will upon these uncultured beer drinkers.

I start by taking Trondheim to act as a base. From there I go take Oslo. While this is being accomplished, a secondary force seizes Iceland (why not). With the fall of Oslo, and as a result of some successful battles, I'm now at about 34%. So I ask for the province in Brittany and Iceland. Norway says no. But then Norway offers me the provinces I wanted, Trondheim, and a pile of ducats. Not wanting Trondheim, I decline. I then resubmit my offer and Norway declines and then offers me all of the provinces and a bigger pile of ducats. Being confused, I accept.

Is there anyway I could have not gotten Trondheim? And how do I get rid of it now?

Yes you could've kept fighting and got more peace points for yourself and then just ask for Britany and Iceland, and maybe they would give in, but other than that I wouldn't know.;) Well you can just wait until it rebels and then let it defect.:p

I have seen similar peace offeres from the AI in many of my games before. When I am France in AOE scenario I am usually always offered Flanders, Artois, Luxembug, and Franche Comete from my war with Austria at the begining, when I only occupy those lands and nothing more.....and Flanders is a pretty wealthy place because of its COT so its worth like a lot more....but if they want to suffer ok!;)

Part of the way the AI works in valueing provinces is that offerred provinces are only half the value of demanded ones. So if you are winning, the AI offers you get will almost always be more than you could ask for. Similarly, when you're on the losing end of the war, the AI's demands will be often better than what you could ask for.

As to getting rid of the province in question, there's not too much you can do. You can try clicking on your monarch screen and then "release vassal" and see if any nation you release would receive that province; my guess is probably not.

Your other alternative is to simply wait for it to revolt. It probably still has a nationalism revolt risk, so just pull your armies out of there and wait. If it is a different religion you can set your tolerance sliders to be intolerant of that religion to increase the revolt risk. Then wait for rebels to take it over. After it is rebel controlled for a while it will usually then either declare independence or defect to another country.
