Playing the US with the latest patch+vip i decided to help Annam becomming civilized.

They had allmost doubled they're size early in the game at the benefit of its neighbours, so earing the needed 100 in prestiege they needed to civilize. So i figured if i could help them become civilized they could help counter the British dominance in the area. If i could supply them with the needed techs so that they could build the needed industry i would borrow them parts of my army to exceed the needed amount.

Around 1855 i started giving Annam the crucial techs (giving them at least 15 machine parts as a result) and loads of cash. After waiting a few years nothing happened, so i decied to give them even more techs and around 70.000 in cash. And still a few years later nothing is happenig

In fustration i load up the game as Annam and notice the obvious why they havent built any factories. Checking the trade menue i notice Annam have over 100 machine parts, around 70.000 in the bank and the know how to build most types of factories. To build factories Annam needed Iron, Lumber and Cement. On all of them the trade was set to "sell above 1000" even though they didnt produce anything. It was like this for most of the different types of products.

Does anyone know what i should do? Could replacing the AI with a civilized AI help, like Belgium?

Any tips would be nice here :)

It wouldn't change much, as the AI is generally too stupid to make stockpiles of ANY commodity. I've yet to see AI building reserves, as it usually has small_arms and Canned_food set to sell>30, so it never builds up a reserve pool, only standing armies.

I've never seen anything else but standing armies, I eve reloaded as various Great powers, just to see what they have, and the usual reserve pool was 0, always accompanied with the sale order for small arms and canned food >30... I'd rather have AI build up their pool, as opposed to the current state where AI builds standing armies numbering 50-100 divs and cheats by using native/nonstate cultures.

So there is no hope?

And i have wasted large amounts of cash and prestiege only to be defeated by a poor AI. In war the AI seem to do a decent job, but this is plain stupid. I'm giving them all they need on a silver plate and the AI is incapable to even build a factory??

I must say this is a huge letdown for a game i have grown to love soo much

Shure it is, but a game with such a large strategic scope isnt that easy to make. Ill take the little negatives here and there. The game gives me way more enjoyment then frustration.

I have in the past, in your current situation, built the factories myself for the country in question. Just load em up and build the proper factories for em. It should make a difference. You can even build a small army for them, or via event(Young nobles rally to the flag) to make things quicker. With 5-10 minuets of playing on a fast or very fast setting you should have em at least up and running. Give em some mil techs and they should really do ok for you.

I know how you feel, i so enjoy the game that sometimes i get very critical about things like this. Maybe im a little spoiled with all this Paradox goodness, my love for the genre, whatever. I still play though becasue i have yet to find any games that come close to EUII, HOI, or Vicky.

I agree, the AI needs serious improving.

In my curret game as Krakow I was watching a war between the Ottoman Empire and the Russians. Russia had way more divisions than the OE, but the Ottomans were winning because the Russian divisions had taken many losses and had few soldiers. It surprised me that they never reinforced their armies, so I checked in the ledger and noticed they had over 2000 Manpower available. If they had used their Manpower correctly, they would have easily overrun the Turks, instead of fighting a very long war and hitting 100% WE.

Chances are most 'unciv' nations are going to act this way. Even Japan used advisors and their industrialization took a few years. Also, Japan started in the late 1800's, not the middle. To expect some of these nations to act like those in Europe of the same time period is kinda asking for a lot. However, to get such nations to perform better I would suggest that the AI would have to be modified for the unciv nation so that it acts like a European nation. I am uncertain how to do that tho.
