The war goal system is rather ridiculous, I'm at war with empire A for their planets along with their allies Empire B & C, Empire D is also at war with empire A and ends up annexing empire A. I can no longer achieve my war goals but I still have to fight empire B & C? It makes no sense as empire A no longer exists, so I'm wasting time and resources for a white peace. Not to mention all the times people forget to set these goals at the start.
What's the logic in this system? Is it just to be different from Eu4? I understand that wars are a lot more damaging in Stellaris but who or what exactly is forcing me to follow my war goals in a game play sense? It's not like EU where we need permission from the pope or something.
