Hi all! So my city has progressively slowed down over the last month and I wasn't sure why. I thought that perhaps it was a function of the "More PathUnits" and "MoreCitizenUnits" mods as with an increased citizen unit limit and path unit limit, it would be expected that some slow down would occur. However, it was so slow that I honestly thought my city was not salvageable, until I went and used the "Remove Stuck Citizens and Vehicles" option as part of the TMPE mod. I actually forgot this was part of the mod altogether, to be honest! Anyway, lo and behold, after clicking this, my city resumed its original speed, which was really refreshing.

Anyway, I'm super happy that this option exists as part of TMPE buuuuut what exactly causes citizens/vehicles to get stuck in the first place? I know that some path errors (usually pedestrian paths, I think, but sometimes also bugged roads) can do this but I actually went and did a look for trafficky areas as that usually helps and couldn't find any. Any thoughts?

I have the same issue and can "solve" the slowdown by pressing the same TM:pE button as you. I have been trying to figure it out for a long time. I read something about Node Controller and making your nodes too long but I haven't really gotten to the bottom of it. Some way of figuring out WHAT is stuck, WHERE, and WHY would be really useful. I went through all the usual stuff thus far, disabling mods, broken node detector, getting rid of assets, etc, but pressing that button in TM:pE instantly brings back the full performance of the game for at least a few minutes before I have to hit it again.

My city is big, I used 81 tiles to unlock everything, population is between 450K-510K depending on the death waves. I too use the MorePath units (that solves all the transport lines breaking which is a maddening problem) and MoreCitizenUnits, RealTime, Metro Overhaul, and a ton more (none of that Chaos/Holy Water Crap!) My PC is Ryzen 9 5900x with we64GB RAM, NVMe SSD, 1660TI video so it isn't a slouch, and runs the game really well after resetting stuck cims and vehicles - for a bit. Having a hotkey to this button would be a good start, but figuring out root cause would be even better.

Hope we can find an answer....

Have you got the Parking AI on? As that causes cars to just stop in the middle of the road sometimes.
That's interesting! I did have that on so I went and stopped it. No idea if it was the cause though as when the slow down was happening I didn't see any stopped cars or anything. But who knows, my city is pretty huge so it could be easy to miss. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, same here! I went through all those steps as you had but I don't think it has anything to do with Node Controller as I didn't have that mod on at the time. But perhaps because I use Move It and will sometimes "extend" a road using it?

I have similar city stats and PC specs as well- in fact, we could very well be twins. I don't use 81 tiles but fill up quite a bit of the 25 tiles I do have. I use very similar mods and never downloaded the malware mods.

But yes, I'd love to find out the underlying problem because I wonder if it could be causing some of my issues as well. Right now, my city is around 350,000 citizens but Watch It! says I have TWICE that many, which seems to cause my path units to reach the max even WITH the MorePathUnits mod. While clicking the TMPE button is like magic for the slow down issue, it doesn't seem to change any of the stated numbers in Watch It! regarding population, citizen units, or path units. So maybe it's not related but who knows!

I haven't been able to track down what is going on and I even built a new city. a couple week ago and for a while all was well, but then it started slowing down again. I have discovered at the very center of the map is where those underground dwellers are - but they didn't appear until the 5th save of the game and by that point, I am not sure what I had added etc. Cims at the very bottom of the map (have to dig a hole to see them) dead center of the map, but again, I am not sure if these guys are the problem.

I have put a pretty effective workaround in place. Using the "More Shortcuts" mod I created a hotkey shortcut for the "reset stuck cims and vehicles" button (ctrl-alt-c) and then using aprogram called macromakeer, made a macro that hits ctrl-alt-c every 2 minutes. In skylines, there is a click sound, the screen border briefly turns red like the game had gone on pause, then all is well and speedy. 2 minutes later, the button gets clicked again and game continues to be speedy.

A very Rube-Goldberg way of "solving" it, but I can't figure out actual root cause and I just want to play with my city instead of troubleshoot the game, so my "solution" works for me.

I turned off TM:pE to see if it is a TM:pE bug, but without those traffic rules, chaos ensues so I am not sure if it is helping. I *need* TM:pE so my macro-solution is how I am rolling for the time being.
