ive had vicky for a couple of weeks now.

ive put in plenty of time, learnt all the game concepts. but i now find that im struggling to keep up an interest in the game.

i played euii to death, with many an all night session, but vicky does seem to captivate me in such a way. dont get me wrong, i like vicky, but i dont know, it feels like its lacking something which i cant put my finger on.

i really want to become as addicted to this game, so does anyone have any advice?

and before anyone suggests it i have tried a selection of countries.

I recommend multiplayer games, especially in large, reliable groups. They really shake things up. In MP games, your countries become the vehicle for friendly competiton with other humans, not just trying (and succeeding) in outsmarting the AI.

Well what's bugging you exactly, or what is more interesting in EUII? Is it the diplomacy? The battle system? What?

Maybe it's just the time period. I often play more than one game just because the genre/time period isn't at an interest peak for me. Medieval Total War is a cool game, but I need to be in a Medieval mood to really get into it. :D

I kind of lost the interest in this game too, and i can't really put my fingers on it either... i have some suspicisions though.

One thing i just thought of is that all nations are fairly similar in Vicky. The challenge always lies in building up a strong economy. After doing that, you can do whatever you want. I'm sure multiplayer helps though.

Interest for me comes in waves. Ill play a game in Vicky, by the end something will have gone in a way that makes the game kinda boring, and I wont finish it. Ill do other things for a day or two, then'll start up either another Vicky game but as someone Ive never/rarely played, or a CK game.

I just uninstalled Vicky because I screwed up some gamefiles and need to reinstal but I think Im gonna play a Ck first. I havent played a game on the new patch so Ill do that, then will play as China. Which I hav been wanting to do for a while.

Anyway... As I said, interest comes and goes. Variety is necessary or you will end up not liking it and wont want to play it again. So go play another EU2 game. Afterwards that Vicky craving will come and youll want to play.

its a good question, a combination of minor things. as levi erikson said, each country is very similar, just build economy. despite the battle system being more complicated, the wars dont seem as gripping as euii.
some elements of the interface bug me, such as the world market sliders.

as for multi-player, i would if i had a decent internet connection.

Well, I have not played EU2 for about a year now. I must have played it 300 times (no joke). EU2 is just plain boring compared to Vicky. As almost any nation I can run amuck early on. I usually have the win tied up the first hundred years. It is interesting, but there just is not much else to do.

Victoria, on the other hand, always has new inventions that allow me to build new things. And the tech format is superior imo to EU2. EU was a great game, but I now play Vicky.

As Memnon said, try MP. I've been losing interest in Vicky lately too, but I've been trying (hard) to find some MP partners to play with. It's actually quite difficult to do :) But I've been making some headway, not much but it's a start. Hoping MP will shake things up for me, it should for you as well.

I'd settle for developing an Intrest in the game. I'm try to play belguim right now. Is there any certain countries that offer more than simply building up my economy?

Prussia and Austria come to my mind.

See, I must confess, I do a bit of roleplaying, so to me every nation is different some how. ;)

However, one thing I don't find similar is the situation each nation is in. Sure you have to build up an economy, but you try turning Abu Dhabi into the #1 industrial power in the world. Also, the political situation is different with each nation. The Bavaria game I mentioned in the "Vicky Moments" thread is perhaps one of my most exciting games just because of the diplomatic game that I was playing to get my country to the top.

Fact is, if you find economic development dull, you're simply not going to enjoy Vicki, no matter how much war you engage in.

There will be long periods where, because of badboy, you're forced into inactivity, and if building factories, improving infrastructure and converting POPs is just not your cup of tea, then you simply won't enjoy the game and there's no point in continuing.

It's definitely not a game for everyone, as the sales showed. Personally, I think you have to be a bit weird to never, ever for an instant lose interest in Vicki. :D

But so far I've kept coming back to it.

hes right, MP is much different then SP victoria... maybe once it becomes less buggy it will be easier to organize games

About MP games, is there an irc channel for pickup games or something? Also, how long does these games usually go on? I mean, not many have time for 6 hours straigth gaming :)
I don't know of a pure irc channel, but Paradox does have it's own network--Valkyrienet--through which you can play the games. It's accessible under the Multiplay button when you enter the game. Victoria has its own channel.

As to the length, it all depends on the players. Usually, because of lag, you have to play on Below Normal speed, so you may have to go a while before you get through tons of in game time. But it does allow for fewer pauses, less lag, and easier management, so that's good.

What you really want to do is establish a group pf respectable players who can meet regularly or semi-regularly, and play with them. If you want to see what a good MP game can be like, look up the Tides of War AAR.

Ok, I shut up now :)

I recently started a S-P game. Combined with avoiding silly exploits, it really is a fun Vicky experience. You don't have to deal with having 600M people in 250 provinces as you do with Russia, China, the UK, etc.
