I'm now 107 years in, I've played extremely conservatively and I haven't taken advantage of one damn thing that every European worth his salt with an explorer before 1500 doesn't take advantage of. That China is doing well pre-event should be a boon to the game, not a problem.
I would think even a supra-China, which we both know I could've built easily, that stretched from the Pacific to the Mediterranean, encompassed Mexico and Peru, south India and South East Asia and had the manpower and wealth (if not the tech/stab) to challenge all of Europe acting together would at the least be a welcome change of pace and historical insofar as it could have happened if the Chinese government had undergone a massive reform in 1492.
As it stands, I'm building a fairly progressive, versatile state that, if I do say so myself, is among the most valuable and playable in the game. That it's Asian is not sufficient reason to cut it out.
