I'm curious but why are the muslims in the game so frickin' strong? they have already reclaimed a good portion of south italy and other places from christians! and why does the pope never call a crusade? you would think he would call them more often!

Phew! I thought you were going to say they were too weak. In my game, the HRE has already conqured its way from Jerusalem to the Caspian Sea (which I'm slightly upset at seeing the ease in which they accomplished this..). Historically, Muslim nations in the Medieval Era were technologically superior to Christian nations. They did conquer all of Sicily and much of Southern Itally IRL.

The Pope has called 2 crusaders (one on me) but yeah, Egypt is beasting everyone. They were fighting HRE(duchies), France(duchies) and England(duchies) so i hopped on, and then I decided to go on. They managed to scrape together a stack of 8000..... I saw several provinces all throughout their realm occupied but instead they go for someone who they can't really beat instead of those duchies that send 1000~ troops. I'm puzzled.

So far in my games, the crusades are lost in the mix of merely keeping your kingdoms duct-taped together. However I had a game that lasted into the 13th century, and a few crusades were successful by virtue of their targets being fractured at the time.

That's pretty much the name of the game as it stands; strike when and only when your targets are weak.

It seems to depend a lot on player interference. In games where I take a role against the muslims in a particular area, they get bent over. In games where I ignore them they tend to gain ground, but slowly. I rarely play long enough to see if christians can rise to the occasion when I'm not involved.

yeah I managed to get enough to creat the Duchy of Galaliee(or whatever) and gave it to my eldest son(btw this is as the King of bohemia) this game has been crazy overall though, Emirate of Capua has Rome and much of southern italy, France has just started to fracture after the normans were (finaly, after about 40 years) successful in becoming rulers of england after the Norwegians, then Godwinsons won then lost the crown. the HRE has been split in half(literally) after the independence of duchies from Bavaria to Lower Lothringia, Eastern europe is the normal mess that it usually is, and after nearly overcoming the hispanic muslims, the Kingdom of Galica(which inheritied Leon, Castile, and most other spanish nations) fell to the muslims. there has only been one crusade, for Beirut(which I won easily) though.
