Working on my first Communist Yugoslavia run since the new DLC, and I noticed a change to the requirements for the "Abolish the Monarchy" focus. Here's a screenshot of how it looked in 1.9x:

You could take the focus right after you completed the two above it, and it would accelerate the growth of your communist support. Once you got between 50% - 60% you would then take a peaceful referendum to switch to Tito as your leader.

Now, you are blocked from proceeding until your communism support is over 40%, and your government switches immediately after the focus completes.

This hurts you in two ways- (1) it prevents quick progress on the Communist sub-branch, and (2) it lessens the value of the "Empowered Peasant Councils" spirit, as you will likely already be close to 50% support before the enhanced spirit kicks in.

I didn't see anything about this adjustment in the Dev Diary, so I wanted to let folks know what I found.

Thank goodness I did Huge-o-slavia on a older patch, as this change makes that run more difficult to pull off now.

It makes more sense this way. Before you would abolish the Monarchy but still have Prince Paul as your leader,

Agreed. From a narrative position, it always bothered me how the focus didn't do as its name suggested.

Plus, from a gameplay perspective, there's still value to the "Empowered Peasant Councils" spirit as, unlike in Death or Dishonor, higher support for the ruling party translates to increased Stability and, therefore, production, etc.

I like the fact that Abolish the Monarchy actually abolishes the monarchy now. While the 40% support for communism block seems to prevent quick progress on the Communist sub-branch. It's really not that much of a block when you consider that "Form the peasants council" gives you a huge +0.20% communism support and Yugoslavia starts as 15% communist in 1936.

I'm in favor of removing that minimum 40% support for communism completly so that you can rush that focus path if you want to. But if you want to rush it in the current state, it won't be much of a delay. Just go for the "Form the peasants council" as your second focus and make the communist revolutionary minister. With +0.30% communism support you'll probably be over 40% by the time you finish your third focus.
