Good work on blockades Red' s Holland felt he lost up to 90% of his trade income by Duke's Blockade (though he was able to blitz european COT's to minimise the damage)

Can I suggest (and I can visualise our "land warriors" preparing a heavy riposte) that blockades effect the tax and production income of the blockaded provinces as well.

With a Blockade the fishing fleet fleets would be unable to put to sea and the fisheries stop production (curing etc) povinces engaged in the building of ships or manufacture of maritime equipment would virtually as the raw materials nessecary were invariably brought by sea. This would apply to any activity in a sea board province as they would be reliant on the sea for their continued production. Goods would pile up in the docks and land comunications could in no way compensate for this.

If people can not earn a living they cannot pay taxes and 17C europe unlike Soviet russia could not produce goods to surplus

"The workshops were closed, and work suspended. The Zuyder Zee became a forest of masts ; the country became full of beggars : grass grew on the streets and in Amsterdam fifteen hundred houses were untenanted"

Mahan

Admitedly France say would not suffer as badly as Holland did as described above by blockade but it would have a marked effect.

Nah - I think the current effect is about right. Maybe a small effect on tax & production but certainly not over 20-30%.

There was absolutely nothing better in Imperialism than parking a huge navy right outside another country's capital. Your merchant marine would get huge boosts through captured ships, and you'd watch their economy slowly dwindle away into nothing, and every end of turn you'd see increasing numbers of resources be stopped in shipment and the enemie's merchant marine would be devastated trying to run the blockade. I loved it. :D

One idea I would love to see implemented but would have our land warriors storming the bastille in anger would be that each blockading fleet adds a bit to tha war exhaustion of the target nation.

This would compensate for the situation we have now when a France that is being ravaged by armies suffers less than a Country that is not

A pirate blockade seems to send my provinces down to zero production.
I think ships should help with sieging islands with large cities as all islands will rely somewhat on fishing.
Meh, something has to be done to them though I'm not entirely sure what....
Maybe some kind of attack (go up to their port and let loose a few shots into their city). Move your fleet into a enemy port and some kinda minor assault, chance of killing garisson troops, population and destroying buildings. Also obviously depending on the fortress size of the city and the presence of a shipyard a chance of getting some of your ships blasted.
Ah well dunno why I'm writing here, very best case EU3 something will be done about navies.
